Powered by a 2.0 or 2.16GHz dual-core Intel engine. Up to five times the speed of the PowerBook G4. Eight times the graphics bandwidth. With built-in iSight for instant video conferencing on the move. Front Row with Apple Remote to dazzle everyone in the room.

MacBook Pro is built upon the revolutionary Intel Core Duo - which packs the power of two processors (up to 2.16GHz) inside a single chip. It provides 2MB of Smart Cache, L2 cache that can be shared between both cores as needed. It delivers higher performance in 2D and 3D graphics, video editing, and music encoding. And the new engine is only part of the story. MacBook Pro has a frontside bus and memory that, at 667MHz, runs faster than any previous Mac notebook. It's the first Mac notebook with PCI Express, a Serial ATA hard drive, and the ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 for superfast graphics performance.

Sit down. Click on someone's iChat icon. And video conference from anywhere in the world. Though you can barely see it, there's an iSight camera built into the thin bezel just above the display. So now you can conference with associates during the day and chat with the kids at night. iChat AV lets you video chat with up to three other people simultaneously. And when you go head to head, you'll see your colleague more clearly, thanks to the VGA resolution made possible by the superfast Intel Core Duo. MacBook Pro also comes with Apple's Photo Booth application, a fun program that lets you take warped and Warholesque snapshots. With the new iLife '06 (included, of course), you can even record movies with iSight right into iMovie, then use the new iLife's newest application, iWeb, to create a video blog entry or podcast in just a few clicks.

MacBook Pro delivers the Front Row media experience, making it easy (and rather spectacular) to showcase your latest creations. Whether you're at the client's office, on location, or back at your hotel room, you just use the Apple Remote to control your videos, music, movies, and more. Front Row lets you quickly navigate through your work and play from anywhere in the room. You can even use the Apple Remote to navigate through Keynote presentations.

    Pros: Solid Power and Features

    Cons: Heat

I recently purchased this machine as an upgrade to my 4 year old 667Mhz Powerbook. The only reason to upgrade centered around the Graphics Card. The added benefit is the 2.16Mhz Intel Dual Core processor. A definite speed boost with the 1Gb of Memory.... Aside from the hardware, Apple comes through with its standard suite of integrated software in iLife. Complain about pricing, but for what you actually get, there is no comparison. The only downside, is that I expected less heat that the PowerBook. Overall it generates the same amount of heat as my PowerBook so I don't mind. I would have expected less with the Intel Chip. The creative power of the MacBook Pro will be tested in August as I cover an event that will fully utilize my Universal Binary version of Aperture. Read more Less

Pros: Processor, Graphics, Comfort & Portability, Robustness & Durability,

    Cons: Can get very hot

The MacBook pro really does have the best of both worlds. In a recent firmware upgrade offered by Apple and a smaller program called Bootcamp OS X now includes BIOS support as apossed to just EFI. What does this mean? Well it means you can install ot...her operating systems such as Windows XP (only SP2 atm) and linux distro's such as Fedora Core. Great but I wanted OS X to get way from other operating systems...Well its a welcome addition, especially to professionals, many times professionals would need a second machine to test how there work would show on a windows computer (Web designer to check compatabilty with Internet explorer for etc) and also gamers. This now allows users to have just one machine and use both OS X and XP, so no need for a 2nd computer (and XP really flys on my MacBook 1.8ghz 512mb ram!) Enough of dual booting, the MacBook Pro is stunning. Its fast and it really shows it when comparing native applications to those running on a G4 OR G5. Having said that many non native apps running under rossetta also hold up well against there PPC relatives. All in all OS X just flies on these new Intel Core Duo processors. Adding extra RAM will seriously speed up rossetta but its out of the box performance is perfect for light/casual work. iLife 06 is included and works like a charm, it is much quicker on my MacBook Pro compared to my iMac G5. The iSight also looks a little sharper on my MacBook as well. The build quality is excellent, its sleek and sexy. There are plenty of build to order options, especially take up the chance of adding more ram (dual channel if possible). Battery life is ok and lasts around 3 hours on medium settings. The laptop can get very hot just under the screen whilst plugged into the power mains mking it uncomfortable at times on a lap, heat however is fine whilst running off battery. The built in sensors are excellent, as soon as the lighting changes the screen britness will change for optimal viewing as well as the keyboard lighting which is light sensored and will increase and decrease depending on the light. The screen I must say is excellent and is as bright as the apple cinema display. Read more Less

    Apple MacBook Pro Review

This laptop is extremely cool. For someone like me that means warm fuzzies and no buyers remorse. It is kind of crazy that last week I was a lifelong user and builder of PC computers and now I own my first notebook and also my first Mac. Read more
