You've seen improvements in notebook performance before - but never on this scale. The Intel Core Duo powering MacBook Pro is actually two processors built into a single chip. This, combined with myriad other engineering leaps, boosts performance up to four times higher than the PowerBook G4. With this awesome power, it's a breeze to render complex 3D models, enjoy smooth playback of HD video, or host a four-way video conference.

Intel Core Duo is the first chip built using Intel's groundbreaking 65-nanometer process - resulting in transistors so small, you could fit a hundred inside a single human cell. With smaller distances for electrons to travel, and two processors designed to share resources and conserve power, Intel Core Duo achieves higher levels of performance as it uses fewer watts. Which is what makes it possible to design a super-powerful MacBook Pro that's only one inch thin.

When Mac technology makes something easy, it's hardly news. So here's more non-news for MacBook Pro owners: software just works. If you see the Universal logo on a new application, that means it will run on Intel- and PowerPC-based Mac computers. For most existing applications, you simply do what you've always done: double-click them. Thanks to the Rosetta technology in Mac OS X, they look and feel just like they did before.

Pros: Has 256MB of video RAM, which is more favorable than some similarly priced notebooks. Also, this notebook has 1 GB RAM, which is more than some similarly priced notebooks.

Cons: Has an integrated housing media bay, which is somewhat less favorable than some similarly priced notebooks. For example, the HP Compaq Evo Notebook N600c , a 5.5-pound notebook at around $2, 555, has a plug-in module media bay.

A thin-and-light notebook, suited for business computing. Preserve favorite home movies for future generations by saving them onto DVD with this computer's DVD burner. Comes with office-grade word processing software -- fine for most serious busi...ness or academic document authors. With 256MB of dedicated video RAM, this machine will do very well compared to most other notebooks, when it comes to multimedia applications and games. Clean up your digital images with the photo editing software included with this laptop. If you have a wireless network at home, wirelessly browse the Internet from any room in your house with this Wi-Fi enabled notebook. Read more Less

Pros: well built laptop, great customer service, fast processor

Cons: gets a little too hot, not enough native apps, GPU is underclocked

I bought my MacBook Pro as a refurbished unit from Apple. As of such I can't give and accurate rating on the quality of the product. Mine has a few bumps and dings that are associated with a refurbished product. I have to say that this is one goo...d looking laptop. So what if you alienware has dual GPUs and 4 GHz overclocked CPUs. It also only has a 1 hour battery life and weighs 20lbs. The MacBook Pro is thin. It does run a little hot. After a while on my lap it became a little unbearable. The battery is adequate. It lasts anywhere from 3-4 hours. Not too short, but it would nice to have longer battery life. Programs (like Photoshop) that aren't native run about as fast as my old dual 867G4. So they're not terrible, but definitely not snappy either. All in all this is a great laptop that I would recommend to anyone. Read more Less
