Simply put, this is one the best CDs by an artist ahead of his time. A must have.

This album brings out some interesting songs, from the story of an Eskimo boy named Nanook in "Dont Eat the Yellow Snow" and "Nanook Rubs It", to the tale of a mystery man in "Cosmik Debris". "Apostrophe" shows Frank Zappa's Classic Rock side, while ..."Uncle Remus shows his Soft Rock side. With two fast-paced songs in the near-middle(St. Alphonzo's Pancake Breakfast & Father O'Blivion), no wonder this album became one of his greatest. A must have for Frank Zappa die-hard fans. The musically similar follow-up to the commercial breakthrough of Over-Nite Sensation, Apostrophe became Frank Zappa's second gold and only Top Ten album with the help of the "doggy wee-wee" jokes of "Don't Eat the Yellow Snow," Zappa's first chart single (a longer, edited version that used portions of other songs on the LP). Apostrophe has the narrative feel of a concept album, but aside from its willful absurdity, the concept is difficult to decipher; even so, that doesn't detract from its entertainment va...lue. - Steve Huey, All Music Guide Read more Less

Biography

Frank Zappa

Frank Zappa was one of the most accomplished composers of the rock era; his music combines an understanding of and appreciation for such contemporary classical figures as Stravinsky, Stockhausen, and Varese with an affection for late-'50s doo wop rock roll and a facility for the guitar-heavy rock that dominated pop in the '70s. But Zappa was also a satirist whose reser... Read more
