    Excellent Light Jazz-Pop

    If you heard the single "The Best Thing" then you haven't heard the real Ivy. Unlike the hard-edged alternative that the record label decided you should hear, most of Ivy's tunes are pleasant and jazzy. The subject matter is standard fare, but the b...and does a nice job of giving simple tunes about love and life a refreshing touch. It's easy listening merely accented with alternative angst, not laden with it. Read more Less

    Apartment Life, Ivy's second album, is an impressive leap forward for the trio, finding them consolidating their strengths while moving forward into new territory. Ivy has a lush sound that is derived equally from ethereal indie pop and classic '60s pop. Dominique Durand's voice is alternately haunting and beautiful, giving the songs an otherworldly quality, while Adam Schlesinger and Andy Chase's rhythm section keeps the music pinned down to earth. The result is a record that melodic, memorable and lovely -- a rare late-'90s pop record that sounds utterly modern while evoking classic traditions.
