Pros: Austic guitar
Cons: My son thinks this music is weird
Are you kidding me. This is great stuff. I love the guitar, I love the lyrics, and it's live. I have wore out song number 2 on the second disk, "Your body's a wonderland." Its a song about girly parts. Anyways I love it. What could be better than listening to cheesy love songs played on acoustic guitar with the one you love.
Pros: Great performances
Cons: Nothing
John Mayer sounds best when he is performing live. Here, he gets the whole crowd going with great performances of My Stupid Mouth, Comfortable, and Why Georgia. I also love it when he does this covers like what he did in 83 - inserting Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and Let's Hear It For The Boys. You can also appreciate what a talented guitar player he is as he does extensions of his songs.
Pros: Guitar/vocals
Cons: not enough respect
we've all heard of John Mayer. Whether it be on the radio, on much music or listening to the cd. But have we really heard him? upon recently purchasing the dvd "any given thursday", my views on this mucal genious changed. His brilliant guitar skills go hand in hand with his unique and enchanting voice. If any of you out there apreciate good music, you will apreciate John Mayer to the fullest extent possible.
Good music from a down to earth guy that appreciates his audience but be careful, after you hear this album you may want access to the dvd so you can see the concert as well!
John Mayer is awesome. Its as simple as that.
Johns voice seems to be so different from the rest of the people releasing albums right now. His voice has a sensual feeling to it, the words just go right through you and give you goosebumps.
is this where music is headed? bad singing, and bad guitar?
Early last summer, I discovered probably one of the best artists out there today. His name is John Mayer. From his clever lyrics to his witty and boyish charm, this guy's got it covered. John's album/DVD any given Thursday is just that. A regular day with John Mayer. What would most of us do to just spend a day with him? This CD and DVD allows you to experience that. The 4 new songs make the album worthwhile in itself. I have the DVD and the CD. I would suggest purchasing the DVD the extra footage is great and you get to see John just being himself. If you haven't heard John yet, you could check out some of his greatest songs (in my opinion of course) 3x5, my stupid mouth, message in a bottle, something's missing, comfortable, victoria, this is too hard, I love them all. Therefore in conclusion, if you like good music, clever lyrics that are easy to relate to and aren't "OH BABY BABY" then check out John. He's a great talent that I know will last for many years to come. Keep on rockin' John :) :) :)
John Mayer has made music enjoyable once again. He is a true talent.. A true artist. His music is wonderful, and his writing is phenominal.
I say if you DON'T have this CD.. You are missing out.

im a big time musician and i love dmb... it seems this guy is takin dmb's style and turnin it into a almost pop like music... there stage is set up just like dmb's.... yes the guys good but if hes so talented why cant he come up with his own style???
John Mayer is amazingly talented, and his voice is simply breathtaking.
Sell-out has become a worn out phrase overused by pretentious people who think they know what music is "supposed to be." Let the man do what he wants. He sounds better live than on an album anyways. Post your review of the album here, not your opinions on whether or not he should have released a live album. The album was excellent and truly showed off his musical tallent. Go buy it if you haven't already!
I know that Mayer did songs mostly from previous albums; that doesn't detract from the fact that he's a promising new musician. I don't feel the crowd overshadowed his singing or guitar playing too much--on a live album, the fans SHOULD be involved. I know that my favorite songs are his cover of the Police classic "Message In a Bottle" and his song "Why Georgia"--I like the lines "Fold me up. Take me out. I'm portable." I know I already liked his radio hits "No Such Thing" (nice youth angst motif) and "Your Body Is a Wonderland" (nice metaphors and similes). Give John a break--maybe his record company, not he, is responsible for the apparent attempt to capitalize on his popularity. I rate it 3 1/2 stars, actually, and await newer songs. You know?
...to download a copy off the internet, so i won't have to pay the recording industry, as well as all other middlemen, involved in "distributing" this particular piece of media. and if john mayer would set up a P.O. Box, i would be more than happy to send him a check for $5, which is WAY more than what he gets for each album sold at the store.
john mayer's new release suffers and scores the same as all live releases. screaming fans can be a piss-off, but the raw energy of performance comes to light, and as musicianship goes, he ain't so bad. he does exhaust his current catalog by going 2CD but he still dishes out 4 (did i get that right?) songs, so that it's not completely 'all my previous releases live!'
no need to get angry at each other, folks. just say if you like the album or not. of course, have some sense and LISTEN to the CD first. having borrowed my friend's copy (and NO i won't burn it either), and i must admit he does make good music (with some misses).
john mayer's success will lead record labels to look for the 'next big thing', which will probably help budding songwriters with talent to get promoted sometime. hey if dave matthews supposedly helped mayer get famous, then maybe mayer will do the same for somebody else. i said helped. talent also won't hurt. let's just look forward to his coming releases and try to enjoy this one just as much, too.
why don't u get your head out of your ass before i kill u...if u haven't taken time to listen to the album first dont post about it. second if you're complaining about the lack of new songs then u might realize that this is a live album from the tour to support Room For Squares...you dumb
I bought the dvd and the cd on the 11th when it came out. After reading the back of the dvd it said he had an indy release. So I searched everywhere for and finally found it. I thought the album rocked! He is really talented and I look forward to seeing him in concert one day! Thanks for great music "uncle john" :)
Msic is great, he's got a great sound and I love the live sets. I could do without the screaming fans every three seconds though, sounds like he was playing at some junior high school.
John Mayer is the bomb. and if he was a sell out he would lip sync like brittany spears at a live concert. I hope you get the albulm its awesome!
yes...we do...dave matthews kicks ass, and so does John Mayer. if you don't like the music they come out with then don't buy it...but regardless of your opinion, both Dave and John kick ass...and by the way it doesn't sound like crap...their music is good as
None of what you just said comes anywhere close to what one might consider rational thought. All of us, are now dumber for having listened to you. I award you no points...and may god have mercy on your soul.
Honestly dude, quit the rambling and get to the frikkin point. John Mayer is damn good, the live album is just for the fanatics who want everything they can get of his. If you just want to hear new stuff, wait. Wait until he comes out with an album of new stuff...and in the meantime, shutcher YAPPER. The guy's good and if you listen for more than a minute you would notice that he is nothing like Dave. Up yours. Later hookers.
Obviously this guy is an industry genius. Artists don't need a label to give them money up front to record an album, pay the producers, mixers, mastering plant, manufactures, art designers, studio musicians, oh yeah and that is just to make the record, hell with all of their money left over, they can use for promotion, managers, tour, tour support (rodies, transportation, living expenses, manufacture of the t-shirts and merchandise) they can buy that house they always wanted
Then by now, when everyong has bought the t-shirts, they can pay the distributers to make and sell their albums to retail, and pay radio stations to play the songs so others can hear them
this is so easy to do when you are on the road every day playing live to the fans who will buy the t-shirts.
So screw the labels, lets leave up to the artist alone to make thier money because they are so wealthy to begin with, investing a couple of million shouldnt matter to them if they make it or not
remember, john now has an agent and a record company. they're the ones cashing in on his current popularity. they're also the ones that control what is released and when.
As if being beaten down with the DMB wasn't enough, now we've got his clone. He does have a bag though.....a big bag of NOTHING!
the album's sound: Crap
musicianship: They can play their instruments, it just sucks.
vocals: Crap
influences: Hmmmm
comparisons to the artist's other work: I'd say it ranks up there with all his other crap, only the sound quality isn't as good
Compact disks are a tool used to promote a band. THAT'S IT!!! THE ARTISTS DO NOT MAKE MONEY OFF CD's!!! I repeat, the artists DO NOT make money off CD's. The people who are upset about free downloads are the record companies. Anyone who has ever worked in the industry, or has learned anything about what goes on behind the scenes knows this. Its a fact, and not my opinion, so may I make a suggestion...? LEARN IT, LIVE IT, LOVE IT. Thats the way it is. So if you really do want to support your favorite artist, then buy the CD if you want, but know that the artists are not making any real money off them. If you REALLY want to support your favorite artist, then go see them in concert, buy a t-shirt, and download the CD for free. The artist will make the money, and not the record company.
And to those who support the record companies, I say this: Change is coming, my friend. The RIAA, and their sponsors, have been biting the hand that feeds for too long. Time for all those billions of dollars to go where they belong... in the artists pockets, not yours, you greedy
John is working on new material. Let me just clue you in... by the time an artist "makes it" they are so sick of playing the songs off their first "CD", and are usually past them as far as writing goes too. He's been touring for two years non stop, I'm sure he'll take a break, and then right back in the studio so he doesn't "lose interest" from the lemming society we live in. God forbid he should act like a human and try to have a life. We might forget about him...
And whoever made that ignorant comment about recycling music... apparently YOU haven't been to a live show, where he's been working in material for months.
Keep up the good work John... anyone with intelligence understands what's you're doing...
Peace
<EOM>The bottom line is this, if you like an artist support them by purchasing their CD's. It is easy to copy them off the internet and critisize them. These guys have to make a living to get better. With the money they make they spend a portion of it on experimenting with new sounds and new ideas and improving stage presentation. The real sell outs are the individuals who only take from the internet and never purchase, the only person you are ripping off is your self. Making money is not selling out it is the sign of doing something right. If you don't like it don't buy it. I will buy his new album cause I like his music no more no less.
This sucks, where is any new stuff
I actually really like live albums, and one of my favorites is that Counting Crows live album, which was put out after only two albums. So the album wasn't damned from the start, at least for me.
But this guy is just kinda lame. After a little early interest, I got bored quick. He is a singer-songwriter, only wrapped up and packaged in a nice campy way for teeny-boppers. There are too many other writers out there doing the same thing but many times better.
I'll pass.
I'm sick of people calling good artists sell outs because they are successful and gain popularity. I am excited to see John release a live CD. John Mayer live is amazing he is very talented and "Room for Squares" doesn't do him justice. I suppose Dave Matthews Band are sell outs too. They have plenty of live CDs. Many new artists get screwed on their first CD by record companies, just let John be successful and quit whining.
