This is not a carbon copy, but a close cousin to a previous compilation, The ABC Years and Lost Sessions. Like that one, this represents Lamont Dozier's solo albums -- Out Here on My Own and Black Bach -- but doesn't include any unreleased tracks. These songs embody some of Dozier's best solo work; he's ably helped by McKinley Jackson's productions and co-writing. "Fish Ain't Bitin'" remains a biting piece of social commentary about one's quality of life and "Trying to Hold on to My Woman" (also done by Garland Green) is a gripper. Dozier sings in a likable (couldn't mask it if he tried) Southern drawl; its easygoing quality makes other tracks ("Breakin' out All Over," "Take off Your Make Up," "All Cried Out," "Let Me Start Tonight," and "Out Here on My Own") practically unforgettable.
