Rather surprising given that it accompanies a sexfueled comedy with a title that translates into English as "Idiot Love," Carles Cases' score for 2005's Amor Idiota proves a straightforward and heartfelt romantic affair, drawing on classical influences but embracing contemporary sensibilities to create a lush, deeply atmospheric work. By turns ethereal and frenetic, the score is very much the sum of its partseach individual theme pits rival instruments in opposition to create a series of musical dialogues mirroring the conversational structure of the narrative, forging an uncommonly cohesive score that seems to reflect and refract elements of its makeup at every turn.
