    Santana Comes Of Age

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 6, 2006

    Pros: Inspiring,Spiritual And Colossal

    Cons: Too Short For Sure

Santana and Earth Wind & Fire were two of the most spiritually centered bands of the 70's.It is here on 1976's 'Amigos' that Sanatana caught up with that bands sense of the groove with terrific funk songs like "Let Me" and t...he classics "Tell Me Are You Tired" and "Let It Shine"-all wah-wah,clavinet and backup singers. The presense of members of George Duke's backing band as well as the amazing Tom Coster are a big help to the funkiness here.Even the more latin flavored songs "Dance Sister Dance" and "Gitano" are amazing songs. And on "Take Me With You" and "Europa" Carlos himself delivers some of the best riffs of his career-boy can he sustain a pretty chord forever!'Amigos' is one of the bands very best album and the beginning of a trilogy of three unusually funky releases by the band.Highly recommended! Since Yahoo doesn't accept reviews any longer than twenty words anymore, I'll be brief. A very underrated gem. My favorite from this period.

Pro Reviews: Amigos

  • All Music Guide

By the release of Amigos, the Santana band's seventh album, only Carlos Santana and David Brown remained from the band that conquered Woodstock, and only Carlos had been in the band continuously since. Meanwhile, the group had made some effort to arrest its commercial slide, hiring an outside producer, David Rubinson, and taking a tighter, more up-tempo, and more vocal approach to its music. The overt jazz influences were replaced by strains of RB/funk and Mexican folk music. The result was an album more dynamic than any since Santana III in 1971. "Let It Shine" (number 77), an RB-tinged tune, became the group's first chart single in four years, and the album returned Santana to Top Ten status.

Biography

Santana

Santana is the primary exponent of Latintinged rock, particularly due to its combination of Latin percussion (congas, timbales, etc.) with bandleader Carlos Santana's distinctive, highpitched lead guitar playing. The group was the last major act to emerge from the psychedelic San Francisco music scene of the 1960s and it enjoyed massive success at the end of the decade ... Read more
