Pros: The movie was intense
Cons: I want more
Christian Bale has a future. He is a great actor. Versatile to a fault. This movie is provacitive. This movie takes an interesting approach on a morbid but intellectual killer. The movie is interesting from start to finish. I highly suggest this film. This movie goes beyond horror. It deals with morals & subjection. This movie is abstract art. Watch it!
The movie takes you on a whirlwind ride of sick and depraved acts yet you must continue to watch.
this movie is pathetic. acting sucks, the violence is so phony and cheap-looking and it falls apart after the first murder. it gets tedious.it also lacks sufficent suspense and the plot is just stupid and empty.
Lost some of the effect from the book for Rating, Publicity and Ethics purposes. The movie is EXCELLENT but if you read the book the movie leaves a little bit to be desired, but thanks to the MPAA and ignorant people who don't understand the book/movie it will not improve. None the less its more like 10 stars.
when the movie first starts, theyre in a club. there is a song thats playing. i think it might be from the 80's but not sure. if anyone could please e-mail me with the name of that song id appreciate it! thanks.

I thought this was a very well made movie and despite the lack of big name actors, still delivered a haunting and at times humorous peek into the mind of a psychotic yuppie. The book is just as good or better but drags on occasion in its detailed descriptions of music albums. This movie really makes you wonder about the type of people the characters were based upon.
Hularious! I hate horrors with senseless killings and no plot. This is not a HORROR movie! This is a deranged dramatic thriller inwhich our hero (or not) is a purely insane lunatic who cannot be judged by his looks and demenier. There were some killings that could be considered shocking, but most were funny. I mean, his monolouge about Hewey Lewis and the News, plaing Hip to be Square, and killing paul at the same time! Of course, the best line in the movie kind of sums of the movie, "DONT JUST STARE AT IT EAT IT"!!!
This is by far one of the most demented movies I have ever seen! I love horror movies but this movie goes way beyond. I hated it and I would advise no one to watch this movie.
the whole movie is just lame.bad acting bad direction.what a piece of
American Psycho is a beautifully made film. I have never read the book, but have bought it, and scanned through it. Most of the stuff in the movie is DIRECTLY OUT OF THE BOOK! Unlike films such as the upcoming Resident Evil movies and Stephen King's IT. One of the reviews said the acting was horrible. This movie had superb acting, especially by Bale, who played Patrick Bateman, the main character. The lighting was excellent, and we could see what was going on, which was very helpful for the alley scene. The kills in the movie were positively brutal, and there is even rather explicit sex scenes, but they don't reveal much. During filming, people in Canada were protesting this, because a man who went a killing spree or something said the book made him do it (just an interesting fact). His repeated threats to numerous people throughout the movie (the bar lady and the cleaner lady to be specific) almost seemed like he was serious, and he very well was! As you get further into the movie, he begins to get more insane then sane. The ending was very great in my opinion, and it was completely unpredictable. This is how books-to-movies are supposed to be made. If you're in for a good thriller/horror flick, buy this.
Christian Bale leads an all star cast in a thriller that tests a normal human being's point break. Patrick Bateman (Bale) is a Wall Street executive who follows his daily routine like a cat follows a piece of string, until his logical way of thinking is suddenly transformed into a murderous rage. Before he knows it, he starts to live two lives. During the day, he operates normally in the business world who schedules appointments etc, but during the night, he is a crazed loonatic who dissects and mutilates anyone and everyone he crosses (one scene where Bateman slaughters a homeless man in the street is terrifying). Every scene flows well with Christian Bale injecting extreme professionalism and humour into the Patrick Bateman character which is the key to American Psycho being so appealing. Many scenes will shock viewers (scene where Bateman goes on a screaming rampage with a chainsaw in an apartment complex is purely horrific) but there is some sort of irony associated with Patrick Bateman. Certainly not for the easily sickened, or the weak hearted, but American Psycho showcases Christian Bale giving a more terrifying performance than Anthony Hopkins' Hannibal Lecter!!
Director Mary Harron would've had doubts about wether a screen adaptation from a best selling novel would be successful, she had absolutely nothing to worry about. ***** stars.
and stupid. bad acting, poor direction and and just overall tedium make a retarded film. only idiots like this movie
Adapted from the chilling novel, here is the motion picture which showcases a real psychotic who goes on a murderous rampage to feed his insatiable lust for death. Patrick Bateman is a Wall Street executive who lives a double life. During the day, he is a well presented business man who seems to be a perfectly normal guy to everyone around him, but at night, he is a crazed maniac who savagely mutilates anyone he crosses. Christian Bale, a tremendous actor, plays the most horrifying psycho to ever be seen on screen. The most disturbing scene, where Bateman goes on a screaming rampage with a chainsaw, has to be the most terrifying scene to ever be put to celluloid. Christian Bale's performance (the best performance, better than Anthony Hopkins' Hannibal Lecter) is the only reason I have awarded 5 stars for this movie.
it might have been a good flick had it cut down the time and not be so slow. most of the film is boring and pointless after the second killing there is not another one until almost an hour later. if you want to see a great serial killer movie then pick up HENRY:PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER instead.
Sure the book is a lot better, But I dont think that there are a whole of movies that are better than their books. You couldnt make alot of the scences from the book so why even try. This movie has damn good acting and really shows what the 80's were about, excess.
After reading the reviews of this brillant film i am disgusted by the level of overall stupidty shown. If the people had read the book they would know that it would be a pointless affair to try and get some of the scenes through the censorship board. The book is brillant, brutal and disgusting, so much so i had to put it down sometimes. The film shys away from the horror and concentrates on the satircal side of the book highlighting what a shallow and pointless decade the eighties was. No-one really cared about each other and were caught up in the own self-importance. people ahve been slagging off the level of violence in the film. it was definately more scary than the crap blair witch film which in my opinion was swallowed by its own hype and i could not wait to leave the cinema. My final though is Christian Bale was immense as Pat Bateman and no-one could of done a better job, they originally wanted to hire Leo decrapio...Jesus.
In my Humble opinion Christian Bale should be the next Bond at least he is English. For those who doubt my word take a look at A.psycho for a v.funny and brutal story. i bet you can not figure out the real meaing to the book and the film. so for the rushed review but i am surposed to be working. Three cheers for Mary Harron. She has managed to make Bret Easton Ellis' violent satire into a film completely devoid of any violence or satire. This is an achievement in itself. This is also her only achievement - ever. The biggest waste of one of the greatest novels of the twentieth century!
Forget this Movie. Its ok but if you want to be shocked, go read the book.
American Psycho is a must for any bookshelf but the film does the book no justice. Harron seems to concentrate more on the Satire element to the story but doesn't allow the audience to fully understand Patrick Bateman's motives and seems to shy away from the violece. The script also does not show the racism and misogynism Bateman holds in him.
This movie had no storyline it has no
UNDOUBTEDLY THE BEST MOVIE IN 2000!!!
Very dumb movie. Especially the ending. I would recommend it being taken off the shelves for being such a waste of film, tape, tin, and plastic.
I'm not kidding. The people I know who have
watched it either absolutely loved it, or couldn't stand
to sit through it.
I for one, couldn't stop
laughing. The way that Bateman talks at people instead of
to them was hilarious. No matter what the situation,
or who was around, he talked just like he was
talking to himself.
The funniest thing about the
movie, no question was the ongoing deep philosophical
obsession he had with 80s music. The way he would disect
some of the greatest musicians of our time (Whitney
Houston, Huey Lewis, Phil Collins) had me almost wet
myself. Especially what he was doing when talking about
Huey Lewis' definatlive masterpice, "Fore"
If
you haven't seen it, realize going into it that it is
intentionally acted over the top and weird.
Quite
possibly the best movie of 2000 (albeit a very weak field
- Galdiator, Patriot, ???)
An entertaining yet disterbing film about a young
buisness man who for no particular reason goes insane,
very well acted and beautifully filmed by director
Marry Harron.
Based on the best selling novel by
Bret Easton Ellis. Despite it's great proformances
this movie just has no message except for mabey things
are not always what they seem.
well, this is definitely different than other slasher flick i've seen...it does not just show a psycho killing poeple but how he does it and why...it not only shows the killer's dark side but his feminine side as well...very funny at times and it's not just another cheesy flick like most of these movies are...a must see
