Ameerican Life is the worst Madonna ablum I ever heard but is ok. I almost I the sibg is computer rise.Alot of the song on this ablum is about her life do we care about her life? Lyrics dones not make sense and music is ok. Overall I give it a B-

The album was lost in the war of words between Madonna and the media over the American Life video. Musically, it's her most bold statement yet with arrangements and melodies to melt the heart. The lead single itself I really didn't like too m...uch, though the video saved it (until it was pulled). However, Easy Ride, x-static process, Nothing Fails - to leave these and other wonderful tracks unheard is a mistake. Some of the tracks were performed live on TV and the acoustic arrangements are better than those on the album, for instance for Mother and Father. Read more Less

Pros: One of Madonna's best efforts

Cons: Some tracks are just a bit too electronic

The critics savagely tore down this album, but undeservingly. It's one of Madonna's most mature, personal albums, and definitely her most political. If the CD does not compare to previous efforts, maybe it's because of two risible attempt...s at rapping or the hideous trance soundscape of "Mother & Father."The title single is poignant, true, and haunting, and could be called a 21st-century "Material Girl." The next track, "Hollywood," is worth the price of the whole CD, and is just what Hollywood is really like. See the video for the full effect of this song. "I'm So Stupid" admits to past mistakes, albeit in a self-depercating manner. "Love Profusion" is trippy and serene. "Nobody Knows Me" lyrically sounds like a rabbi collaborated w/ Simple Plan. Very interesting. "Nothing Fails" is a bit too anti-religious for my taste, but still beautiful song, and I love the faux-hip-hop arrangement. "Intervention" and "X-Static Process" are both acoustic guitar ballads. "Mother & Father" is Chinese water torture. "Die Another Day" seems oddly placed amoing the other 10 songs, but it's still fabulous. "Easy Ride" is a beautiful coda to a beautiful album that you should invest $12 in. You won't regret it. MADONNA Stirs things up again A cursory glance at the previous reviews certainly proves this point, now that we’ve gotten the fake criticisms and outrageousness ( after all if you hate something so much , why bother to take the time to write about i...t, I certainly wouldn’t,…I’m too busy) we can get down to seriously reviewing Madonna’s 15th release ( 9 releases + hits collections and soundtracks). “American Life” is a collection of 10 new songs + Die Another Day (her Academy award nominated top ten smash) and clearly is Madonna’s most direct and personal effort since 1989’s underrated “Like A Prayer” album. At this point in her twenty year career, Madonna would be forgiven for coasting musically or relying on the “tried & true” to get by, lets face it after amassing a 300 million dollar fortune by the age of 45 and everything, why would you offer yourself up to the type of petty criticisms found in this board? Because she still has something to reveal and share, the second half of the album offers her lushest and most revealing compositions of her career. The energetic first half dazzles with fun production that reminds one of B52’s era new wave, others have the contemporary folk sheen found in just about any Emo release found on alt radio, but with a grittiness not expected of a superstar on her level. “I’m not a Christian but sometimes I want to pray” she confesses on the outstanding track “Nothing Fails”. With her accomplished album “American Life”, at forty-five years of age, Madonna doesn’t only continue to challenge and surprise us, she does something much more difficult and deserving of respect, with her uncompromising artistry and vision, she continues to TOUCH OUR HEARTS Hey Madonna haters “ get a LIFE” Read more Less

besides another feeble attempt at rapping, madonna keeps showing why she still grabs headlines. she takes chances and they usually pay off (except for her feeble attempts at rapping!). i know i can always buy the latest madonna and not be let down.... which is why i stopped buying metallica....since cliff died, all they do is let me down.
