    Entertainment.Anyone who thinks this is actually a "competition" for the best voice is a little naive. Do you think Fox or anyone else would have put this show on TV if people didn't watch it? or if record companies did realize all the money they co...uld make from the winner? Take Kelly from season one....her record sold 285,000 copies in a weekend because of the show...someone (not Kelly) made a lot of money off of that. The reason the show takes a whole season is because the netwrok and record executives find the person that will be the most marketable, not the "best" one....regardless of what we say or vote. For various reasons, this show captures people's attention and then makes you watch...I THOUGHT I couldn't stand these types of shows, but i find myself watching to (a) see how ridiculous some of these people look and (b) watch someon elive out a dream.The album under review here is just a souvenier of the show. Nothing more, nothing less. It shouldn't be held as a original work of art, and we shouldn't expect it to be earth shattering stuff. It's a bunch of people like you and me (except with a good voice) covering a bunch of songs we've all heard before. It's decent sutff and fun to listen to, but it's just ear candy. This CD won't make you think, and you won't be earth-shattering, but you'll find yourself singing along and wondering if the person singing it knew they would be were they are now. I'm not saying it's right, but if you expect anything more than just another attempt to profit off of an overrated TV show, you'll be disappointed.Oh, and by the way, someone mentioned that John Mayer would get voted off of Idol early. In my humble opinion, John is twice the performer and 10 times the songwriter of any of these characters...plus he has the talent to play a musical instrument, not just use his voice. It's not his fault his songs are on the radio constantly. THese "idol-wanna-be's" only pray to have the kind of career he's had so far. Read more Less

    Ruben is the BOMB!!

    Although I don't like some of the artists' voices on the current "Idol", I must say that Ruben has the best R&B-type voice that I have ever heard. I mean, he is right up there with Luther Vandross & Barry White! I will definitely pay money to buy h...is album once he WINS!!Also, what's with the dissing of the show? You know how hard it is to break into the music industry, ESPECIALLY if you don't have a particular image. I'm glad that these people have an opportunity to realize their dream & are given a stage to actually COMPETE to win. There are many singers out there these days that are horrible, but they make money because they come out half-naked! I would actually prefer to have people who can really sing!Example: That guy John Mayer was slamming the show recently, saying that "real artists" would never go on there! HELLO? Do you know how quickly he would've been voted off?? He wouldn't have lasted one day!! He certainly does not have a good voice & to write something cheezy like "your body is a wonderland"?? When I heard that song, I was on the verge of vomiting b/c it was so disgusting! Read more Less

    The major problem with this CD, as I had with the show is terrible song selections. Corey Clark, Rickey Smith and Kimberly Caldwells covers are not the best selections for their respective ranges, I did enjoy RubenStuddard, Kimberly Locke, Clay Aiken... and surprisingly, Julia Demato is very good here as well as Carmen Rasmussen and Josh Gracin.     Definately worth buying

    Pros: Ton's of talent

    Cons: Some of the songs are a little tired.

    I bought this CD and have enjoyed it much, though I only watched the last two weeks of AI this season. The performances by Clay and Rueben are both great. I also liked the Marvin Gaye song though I can't remember the name of the girl that sang ...it right now. My only complaint is that some of song selections that were put on the album are songs the light rock radio stations wore out a long time ago. Though all of the performances were great there are some songs that you can only listen to about a million times before they just become annoying. Read more Less

    I think it is wonderful of you to add a certain "flame" perspective to a wonderful product created by rich people to have these folks come out of the closet and sing thier hearts out like Liza, Bette, etc. A warm feeling below the sightline... of a television humming in my pantleg. Wow! imagine my suprise! I bought this to look at the pictures and found out the music is so horrible my cat like ripped up my pillow as I sat on it!
