American Cultural History - Racism (1947)

Made up of three very different historic films, AMERICAN CULTURAL HISTORY - RACISM explores the causes, effects, and attempts to counteract racism in America. First off, the film "Don't Be a Sucker" uses images of Nazi Germany as an example of the destructive forces of discrimination and persecution of minorities. Produced by the U.S. War Department, the film sends out the positive message that people should respect and embrace each other's differences. "Integration Report 1" captures some important figures and events in U.S. history through footage of Dr. Martin Luther King, and images of sit-ins, protests, marches, and boycotts held in Alabama, New York, and Washington D.C. While the final clip, "Let Us Break Bread Together," does not directly address the subject of racism, it does show people of various races celebrating the decision for Detroit to run for host of the 1968 Olympics.
