    Because of the high quality el gran combo has consistently put out, it is difficult to grab that "special" album. This is, in my opinion, one of the best albums they have produced! It has the best songs they have put together. It was produced just... before the golf war (I served there with the Marines and took this album there for my listening pleasure-everybody wanted it).If you are a fan of them, you must have it! If you are not, you owe it to yourself to check it out! ALL THE SONGS ARE WELL WRITTEN HITS! What more can I say... Read more Less

    Ironically, El Gran Combo turn in quite a memorable effort with Amame, despite the romantic/erotic wave that was hitting the salsa trend in the late '80s. Rafael Ithier wisely used arrangers Louis Garcia and Ernesto Sanchez to add extra color and variations to a firmly established sound. The title tune, "Aguacero," "Brindis a la Vida," and "Todo Bien" are gleeful tunes, the antithesis of the not-so-durable erotic trend that evolved into a strictly romantic styling. An interesting variation of the familiar, tastefully done.
