Meaningful to an unknown extent!
This film has been stuck in memories since childhood. Both having shocked and fasinated me for a very long period of time. And even now as obsolete as the special effects sequences might seem to be, there has been only a handful of more recent films (as advanced as there special effects sequences might be) to have come remotely close in catching my complete attention such as this film does, did, and will do for sometime.

Curiosa investida do diretor Ken Russell no campo da ficção científica. VIAGENS ALUCINANTES tem um clima bem peculiar, pesado e fantasioso. Lembra muito as histórias fantásticas que se destacaram nos anos 60. William Hurt, como sempre, está ótimo. Para refletir.

This movie is my favorite science fiction movie of all time. Even though it was released back in 1980 it doesn't seem like a dated movie. The special effects are staggering even by today's standards. Kudos as well for an amazing soundtrack which is both original and engaging. Coupled with the special effects it really draws you into the movie and sets the tone for one thrilling ride. The acting is also top notch. Even though this movie received accolades by critics, for some reason it seems overlooked by the general public. Don't make the same mistake. Go out and rent or buy this movie and enjoy it at home one quiet evening. Watching it on a good quality television and a nice sound system is recommended as well. Then hold on tight for what will be one hell of a ride!

Altered States was a surprisingly entertaining movie. Even though it was released 1980, it has stunning visual effects. The cinematograhy was beautiful. The story is about a scientist who tests the effects of an a Mexican Indian psychadelic mushroom. The tests result in more than just a head trip! This film is William Hurt's debut picture.
