In 1967, at the age of 50, Dick Proenneke retired and moved to the wilds of Alaska, where on the shore of Twin Lakes--in an area where few humans had ever set foot--he built himself a log cabin. Following a lifelong dream that many can relate to but few actually act on, Proenneke began making a life for himself in the wild, far from civilization but very close to the breathtaking natural beauty, harsh climate, and diverse wildlife of Alaska.
