AllStar Baseball 2005 adds to the series' substantial feature set with two new perspectives designed to offer a more comprehensive ballpark experience. The game's new "FielderCam" and "BroadcastCam" are designed to provide a more complete picture of the stadium action. Meanwhile, Steve Lyons and Thom Brennaman offer commentary for Englishspeaking fans, and Diamondbacks announcer Oscar Soria calls the plays en Español.

All Star Baseball's Franchise mode offers consecutive seasons including Spring Training and league expansions. Games are played in over 80 different virtual stadiums, including current, classic, and fantasy parks. Schedules can be randomly generated. The series' "CreateAPlayer" and "CreateATeam" features return, offering new options.

MLB teams and rosters are based on the 2003 statistics and the game's "This Week In Baseball" feature allows fans to replay clutch moments from that season; media extras can be unlocked through successful efforts here. For connected gamers with a PS2 Network Adaptor, AllStar Baseball 2005 also offers downloadable rosters and supports headtohead online play. ~ T.J. Deci, All Game Guide

    Pros: Improved AI

    Cons: Glitches

As a regular to the ASB series since it's inception in 1998, I can say that while ASB 2004 was a masterpiece, this years installment comes up frustratingly short. Glitches in the gameplay is this games most greivous error. (i.e. Balls making erra...tic bounces in mid-air to go right to a fielder when he overruns or underruns a fly ball) Future throws are also occasionally a problem, as sometimes it won't throw at all. Other problems of note are that it seems even average and subpar pitchers all have 12 to 6 hyperdrop curveballs, the likes of which you only see out of a Kerry Wood, a Barry Zito, or a Matt Morris, or still other pitchers that are known soft-tossers like Greg Maddux who normally top out in the mid to high 80s, come out firing 96. On the plus side, some of the AI is improved. Whereas in past games, it was very easy to just try to steal, only to run back when it was obvious you are about to be thrown out, and make it back safely to 1st, now it's not as easy to escape a rundown. All in all, ASB baseball has built up the premier console baseball game in the past, and they built themselves a very high standard to live up to year by year. It still is the best console game available, but by ASB standards, it comes out a little flat. Read more Less

    Pros: franchise

    Cons: no home run distance

great game. over 80 stadiums form spring training to torn down stadiums. drafting, Rule 5 and other things are great in franchise mode. Hitting is easy, again. players throw their bats when they get fooled on a pitch sometimes or they break their bat...s, like last year. Read more Less
