i agree, theres bugs, but theres im every single sports game you can get your hands on. dont listen to some of these bad reviews. if u tap the A button, then u will check the swing, but if u hold it, then it will always go thru, so dont listen to that other thing. on the homer issue, i dont really like how it goes to another screen, but it only does that for obvious homers, for the close ones, it doesnt do that. it has good control, great graphics, commentators that can get annoying, and yet, since its a baseball game, it can be played for hours
There are many many problems with this years game. Although the graphics are nice and stadiums and players look pretty good, the gameplay is not very good. Check swings are so overused that it almost becomes hard to swing. When a home run is hit, it immediately changes to a different camera taking away all the suspense. This should really only happen when the home run is a no doubter, not a home run that just clears the fence.
The announcing is subpar with very little variety and almost no comments by Brenly.
The strike zone is so annoyingly small that pitches undoubtedly strikes in pro baseball are called balls.
Replays after each at bat is good, but not being able to access these replays yourself to see the play over and analyze it yourself is also annoying.
The worst problem for multiplayers is the non-ability to do a multiplayer season. I know that I always do a season with multiple teams or with friends to make it more interesting. Always playing the computer can get very dull.
Overall, there is really not much new in this game opposed to the other versions except for a little update on graphics, but there are also many features that you can't believe are left out. The best feature of the game I belive is the music on the main screen and small videos on the main screen. Other than that, it is a disappointment.
This game is a great but I found that there are many bugs to be worked out like catching the ball because sometimes you are nowhere near a ball and you still catch it. The graphics in this game are great except their size up to bat like Ken Caminiti is a lot bigger than what it shows on the screen. This is a great game but, understandably, has many bugs to be worked out since this is the first nintendo with cd dvd.
I just want to say that I believ that this game is probably the best baseball game that I have played. Unfortunately, I have yet to play a baseball game that was simply incredible. But baseball is a boring game anyway, and I am really amazed at the broken bats. I give this game a five, only because I am grading baseball games on a curve.
this all star baseball game is the worst i've seen. it is not even close to any of the games made for nintendo 64. it was a big mistake buying this game. please don't buy it
i think billy bob hits this one right on the nose. its a good game with real good graphics. i mean the players and people are almost perfect. the controls are kind of hard at first but get better. the game is hard too. this is good though because all the other basrball games out there are too easy. thats a big reason why i like this game. this is a good game and i suggest you try it.
As a baseball purist I must say this game blows me away. How many baseball games thats not in the All Star series can you guess what the pitcher is going to pitch? Only All-Star baseball brings it home! Excellent graphics, excellent gameplay, and the stats galore allow this game to get a 5 in my eyes!
I bought both Luigi's Mansion and ASB02 last week and I can only describe ASB in one word: "eh."
Only die-hard baseball fans will enjoy this game, and even that statement is questionable.
There are good points about the game. I gave it 3 stars because the graphics, motion, and detail is incredible. Each player has a unique face, THEIR face in fact! (duh). Batting, pitching, fielding, every move the player makes is very detailed and smooth. There are well over 30 ball parks you can choose to play in and each one is unique. Also, the announcers are so great! They make fun of you sometimes which had me laughing at loud when I first heard it.
However, something is lacking. The controls are a little difficult to figure out and get used to, and the pause menu is so "Sega Genesis"-ish. Frankly it gets boring after a while. Batting is amazingly difficult when your playing against the "always perfect" computer, which can be really frustrating.
What I did discover is that while ASB02 can be somewhat amusing by oneself... DEFINITELY a party game. Get the guys to the house and have fun multiplayer style. At least then everyone is equally bad and the fun could last for hours, instead of trying to strike out the computer for 6 minutes and then hitting 3 grounders consecutively and receiving 3 outs in 39 seconds.
3 stars, bad one player game (boring, frustrating, repetitive), great party game (competitive, amusing, challenging).
