The four-disc box set The All-American Boy contains all of Bobby Bare's RCA recordings between 1962 and 1970, including the Top 10 hits "Detroit City," "500 Miles Away from Home," "Miller's Cave," "Four Strong Winds," "A Dear John Letter," "It's Alright," "The Streets of Baltimore," "The Game of Triangles" and "(Margie's At) The Lincoln Park Inn." In addition to all of the master recordings, the set also includes several alternate takes, unreleased tracks, incomplete takes, duets and rarities. Certainly, box sets that are this comprehensive only appeal to dedicated fans, yet The All-American Boy is more listenable than the average all-encompassing Bear Family release because Bare's RCA recordings were of consistently high quality. Of course, that doesn't mean casual fans should purchase the set -- it means that the set is worthwhile for serious fans.
