All the Road Running- a match made in heaven

    By /  May 7, 2006

Pros: Every note on Tracks 1 - 12

    Cons: Are you kidding?!

If you're a Mark Knopfler fan you should definitely think of adding this CD to your collection. He teams up with Emmylou Harris on this album, and the results are gorgeous. Even if you're not an MK fan, you should give it a listen, if you hav...e an ear for good music, you'll not be disappointed. Mark's voice and the way he sings with his guitar is always moving and profound, though Emmylou's voice paired with Mark's guitar on this album is absolutely amazing! Personal favorites..."This is Us", "I dug up a diamond", "Belle Star", "All the Road Running", "Rolling On". Read more Less

Pro Reviews: All the Roadrunning

  • All Music Guide

This lush and earthy collaboration between Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris may sound like it rose from an amiable weeklong studio session, but the 12 tracks that make up All the Road Running were actually recorded over the span of seven years. The bootstomping "Red Staggerwing" and the gentle "Donkey Town," both of which were bumped from Knopfler's Sailing to Philadelphia record, give the exDire Straits leader a chance to flex his country muscle, while the wistful title track spotlights the lovely Harris, whose playful demeanor and guarded confidence helps keep Knopfler in check during his sometimes excessive soloing. The two couldn't be more at odds vocally, but Knopfler's laconic drawl is like an easy chair for Harris' fluid pipes, and standout tracks like the 9/11inspired "This Is Goodbye," the wistful "Beachcombing," and the infectious single "This Is Us" come off as effortless statements of vitality from both camps.
