Pro Reviews: All by Myself

  • All Music Guide

Aptly titled but a lukewarm debut from Eddie Kendricks, the ex Temptation tenor. While better than his last two releases for Hitsville U.S.A., they're weak compared to goodies like Eddie Kendricks, Boogie Down, and People... Hold On. Kendricks' first single "It's So Hard To Say Goodbye" is as vanilla as the cream, a very ordinary beat-ballad; its flip "This Use To Be the Home of Johnnie Mae" is overblown and mundane. The LP has two good points: "I Did It All For You" a sweet ballad with an understated beat, and "Can I," Kendricks' signature ballad, a dreamy tune has been recorded by many, including David Peaston.
