    Pros: A really great singer

    Cons: Wish there were more

I bought this album for two reasons. I love country/ bluegrass, and we have the same last name.Talk about a surprise, this album is great. Her voice is powerful and clear. A good blend of songs.I was especially blown away by the song, "Paper and... Pen." Talks about a misunderstood letter. A real tear jerker. Read more Less

Pros: Pure country voice, pure country lyrics, and pure country music! l

    Cons: What's not to like?

This has my vote for best album and best performer of the year. For those of us tired of the pre-fab country singers who all sound alike, this is a breath of fresh country air. Man can this little gal sing! PURE COUNTRY mixed with blue grass. It does...n't get any better than this. Read more Less

Pro Reviews: Alicia Nugent

  • All Music Guide

The marketing, the label and the instrumentation all say "bluegrass," but everythng else about this very impressive debut album says "straightup country." It's actually a masterful marketing move bluegrass fans who sniff that country music has been too commercial since about 1950 can let themselves be lulled into complacency by the banjo and dobro, at which point Alecia Nugent's sweet, powerful voice will do the rest. And most country fans like bluegrass anyway, so this will sound just like an exceptionally rootsy country album to them. The bluegrass snobs may find themselves startled by the Carl Jackson duet (a fine weeper called "For Love's Sake") or the vintage RB cover tune (an even finer rendition of "But I Do"), but the sturdy moutain soul of "Think of What You've Done" and "Blame It On the Train" will ease their worried minds. If you love Alison Krauss's voice but think she's gone maybe a bit soft in recent years, or if you miss the rich, brassy sound of some of the great femal...e country singers of the 1940s and 1950s, then Alecia Nugent may be just who you've been waiting for. Highly recommended. - Rick Anderson, All Music Guide Read more Less

Biography

Alecia Nugent

She would later combine it with a traditional country style but Alecia Nugent grew up surrounded by traditional bluegrass music. Her father started the Southland Bluegrass Band the year Alecia was born and when she was old enough she joined the band and sang lead on Holly Dunn's hit, "Daddy's Hands". She was the band's lead vocalist by her late teens, adding some of the... Read more
