R.I.P FNM
, February 7, 2003Reviewer: mathias_werren - See all mathias_werren's reviews1 of 1 Yahoo! Users found this Album of the Year review helpful I don't know if i'm just getting old or if today's music just blows in general(with some rare exceptions). I just think that the new metal scene is exploding with these semi punk groups all over the charts(i.e. blink 182, sum 41). It's a question of personal opinion of course but I just think that today's music is blend and unoriginal. Fnm is one of the only bands that can actually make blues, metal etc. and sound good, all on the same album(KFAD.. FFALT). this latest album is just a great evolution for the band, 'cause you have to evolve otherwise people label you as boring. actually, when you think about it, i'm probably selfishly happy they split 'cause I'll never have to suffer the downfall of fame that happened to other bands I used to love(...Metallica, or llica as i like to call them since the metal left a long ago). anyway, just like Alice in Chains, whose singer just recently died of an overdose, I will always love FNM and I will always appreciate the musical experimentation I think is missing today... or is uit just me becoming an old man? ... -

rch-mouth to mouth Cons: got that feeling-home sick home
For the lovers of crossover/alternative music who never got into faith no more this is the perfect album to start! It contains heavy/dark & melodic songs done to conviction with highlights like Ashes to ashes, Stripsearch,Mouth to mouth & the almost surreal paths of glory.. Recommend this record highly and it makes you come back to it again and again!!!!!!

Pro Reviews: Album of the Year
| EXPERT RATING: From AMG Reviews Faith No More's 1997 release Album of the Year featured the talents of another new guitarist, Jon Hudson, who replaced Dean Menta (Menta only toured with the group in support of King for a Day before being dismissed). Like King for a Day, Album is more straightforward musically than past releases and remains one of FNM's most focused and concise works. Recorded in bassist Billy Gould's home studio, Album of the Year would turn out to be their last studio recording before splitting up in 1997. A trio of outstanding tracks "Stripsearch," "Last Cup of Sorrow," and "Ashes to Ashes" blend hard rock and pop melodicism the way only FNM can, while "Helpless" is an unpredictable composition that alternates between heavy guitar riffing and Mike Patton's tempered vocals. The explosive album opener, "Collision," and "Naked in Front of the Computer" show that the band can still compose prime heavy rockers, while other musical forms were included as well (the romantic ballad "She Loves Me Not," the evil boogie of "Home Sick Home," and the Middle Eastern sounds of "Mouth to Mouth"). For the gripping album closer, "Pristina," the '90s turmoil in Yugoslavia is used as a backdrop for a tale of lovers being separated due to war. Album of the Year was a fitting way for one of altrock's most influential and important bands to end its career. - Greg Prato, All Music Guide |
