Ajico managed to make a notable impact during their brief stint on the Jrock scene. The band was founded by Kenichi Asai, the frontman of the rockabilly act Blankey Jet City, and singer UA, who led a successful solo career; Asai wrote the ballad "Strawberry Time" for UA's album Turbo (1999), and when his own main band split in 2000, he created Ajico with UA, her drummer Kyoichi Shino, and Tokie of Rize.
