The XP-V516C delivers incredible sound performance with up to 27 hours of playback. AIWA's advanced E.A.S.S. (Electronic Anti-Shock System) Plus is superior to anti-shock systems that rely primarily on buffer memory. With a significantly extended horizontal motion tolerance range and extremely precise laser pickup focus servo control, AIWA attacks the problem at the source. The laser pickup is far less likely to mistrack as a result of severe shock. And should mistracking occur, recovery time is much shorter. Combined with the digital buffer memory, this design significantly improves the ability of AIWA players to deliver uninterrupted music in typical portable use. AIWA's DSL circuitry is a sophisticated electronic equalizer automatically that compensates for bass roll-off, thereby extending the speaker's low-frequency response. The amount of compensation is varied according to signal level to prevent distortion and provide deep, natural-sounding bass at all listening levels. This player is also CD-R/RW compatible.

    A Great Product

I got an Aiwa XP-V516C as a gift a few years back. At a time when I was still recording stuff to tapes to listen to my Sony Walkman, it took me a little while to start using this full time. Now that I only use CDs, this is now all I take with me in... terms of music. It is very durable. After being dropped while playing, and bumped around various times it still works fine. I don't really abuse my electronics, it's mostly just the rigors of use by a person who is always on the go.Also, a feature that I like a lot compared to my brother's Sony CD player is that I can play CD-RWs. This allows me to make my own mixes on the computer and pick out my favorite songs on the CDs I own. And I can use the same CD over and over again.Another useful feature is the 40 second anti-shock protection. I really never use the 10 second one (it uses more battery power and skips more). I also like the DSL bass boost, which I also always leave on.To keep this short, I also like the Hold feature. I found my tape player to get bumped and play if it was in my school bag, causing the battery to be drained. When I flip the hold switch, this thing will not respond to the buttons, thus not draining my batteries. The headphones were kinda cheap, though, Aiwa makes much better headphones that they could've included.Overall, I highly suggest this model to anyone who is looking for a portable CD player for themselves, or as a gift.
