Turn-based war game strategy comes to the portable screens of the Game Boy Advance with this release of Intelligent Systems' Advance Wars from Nintendo. Players have a conventional top-down perspective on the battlefield, though the screen cuts to a more detailed side-on split-screen view of the action as units and companies face off for attack.

Though the basic "move" or "shoot" command options are meant to be easy to understand and learn, a wide range of unit types, several weapon variations, and differences in terrain can combine for complex consequences that call for well-considered strategies from even seasoned war gamers. The game features a training mode for new players and a map editor for veterans. Up to four human Advance Wars players can go to battle with one another through a link cable connection. ~ T.J.     When I picked up this game I knew it was fun, I just didn't know how fun. If I had only one word to describe this game it would be, "Marvelous". This game is by far the best cardtridge ever made! I mean that! Loads of units, 6 different modes, and a ...whole lotta' fun equals a countless amount of hours played. This game has a battery save, you can play with up to four friends, and if you only have one cartridge and one gameboy advance you can still play with friends because the game is turn based. Just move your troops and pass the gameboy around. The music is nice and matches the strategy and action that is in the game. Playing campaign mode is a lot of fun, but when you play with your friends you'll play the game till your eyes are bloodshot. Thats how addictive four player is. The replay value of Advance Wars is amazing! During campaign mode you earn coins based on how well you defeated your opponent. With those coins you can purchase different Commanding Officers and other things to that sort. You also unlock new modes and different paths in the story every time you replay the game. Even if you aren't a fan of the strategy genre you will still get a lot out of Advance Wars. Advance Wars is the best game to grace the Game Boy Advance yet. I can't imagine how well Advance Wars will do in the future if they make sequels. You are probably wondering about the graphics right? Again the graphics are marvelous! The map isn't as pretty as the battle sequences are but they are still very good. This game is better than perfect it is like a god to handheld video games. I just hope that there is more to come. Even if you hate videogames you'll like Advance Wars. If you don't have a Game Boy Advance I suggest you buy one one, because it has the greatest handheld video game ever created compatible to it.Go and buy this game RIGHT NOW! GO!
