After waiting another 5 years for the Lep's to release a new album(where unfortunately their mainstay lead guitarist Steve Clark passed away while recording), Adrenalize tried too hard to live up to its mighty predecessor.
The album is just too poppy and predictable in such tracks as 'Heaven is', 'Make Love Like a Man'(A nice sequel to Pour Some Sugar on Me), and the power pop 'Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad.'
There are some good tracks such as the opener in 'Lets Get Rocked', and the very nice tribute to Steve Clark in 'White Lighting.' The latter being as close to the quality of Hysteria on this outing.
Overall, I though Lep could come up with something much better than Adrenalize. They stayed with the tried and true formula of Hysteria, but even made it more pop metally in the process.
Its okay for the time, but thankfully they realized this and released some great rockers on 'RetroActive.' This album restored my faith in the band again:)
DEF LEPPARD IS ALWAYS GOOD PARY MUSIC..
EXPECALLY AT THE COAST... PARTY ON...
You are so right! I love this album. When it came out, I was only in 9th grade and enjoyed it thoroughly. Of course MTV made it easier and I was such an MTV nut back then. Still..however commercial and mainstream it was, I love listening to songs like Heaven Is, Make Love Like A Man, Let's get Rocked, White lightning, Stand Up, I Wanna Touch You et all. I dont care if early Lep fans dismiss this album. Adrenalize was for a long time my all time favorite Lep album until I listened to Hysteria. After all it came out in 1992..a time when in my opinion, a lot of genius albums like U2's Achtung Baby and R.E.M.'s Automatic For The People were made.
This is the most under rated Def Leppard album. Its better than 'Euphoria' and as good as 'Piromania'. Its only beaten by the might of 'Hysteria' and thats because it's the greatest album of all time.
'Have you ever needed someone so bad' is one of the best love songs ever and 'Stand Up' is amazing. If you were young when thos album came out you will love it as much as 'Hysteria'. The people who slag it off were probably in there prime in the 80's and are just, old bitter codgers.
This album ruled! I loved every song on the entire album. I've got "Pyromania", "Hysteria", "Adrenalize", and "RetroActive" and have listened to them all except "RetroActive", and so far I have loved every song on each album I've heard. That's why Def Leppard is great. I especially liked "Let's Get Rocked", "White Lightning",
I would've liked to given this album a 4.5 because that's what I think it deserves. Although I like every song on this album, I liked "Pyromania" and "Hysteria" better, they were just better quality. But I give "Adrenalize" such a good rating for three reasons.
One, I like the music on it. Two, I take into account they lost Steve Clark and Phil Collen has to take over and does a good job of it. Three, it's in the 90's and a lot of heavy metal greats didn't quite make it.
Even with Steve gone Def Leppard still rocks just
as hard.
Don't get me wrong I really miss Steve
but you have to move on when your as big as Da
Leps.
Plus they have to songs witch I'm sure that will not
be forgottin if you have this album, and they are:
Make Love Like A Man, and I Wanna Touch You.
Last
but not least Vivian Campbell has worked out nice
with the rest of the guys. Long Live DEF LEPPARD
THIS AULBUM TORE THE MUFFS OF MY EARS I LIKE THIS ON THE BEST AND I THINK IT IS A GREAT WAY TO SAY "WE MAID IT" BECAUSE DEF LEPPARD IS ONE OF FEW BANDS THAT SURVIVED THE 80'S AND THEY DID IT WITH OUT THERE ORIGINAL LINE UP EVEN THOUGH STEVE WAS IN SOME OF THE ADRENALIZE TRACKS HE DIDDENT HAVE A CHANCE ON THE OTHERS THAT IS TO BAD BUT DEF LEPPARD IS ONE OF THE STRONGEST BANDS EVER WITH THERE INCREDIBLE ONE ARMED DRUMMER AND THERE DEDICATION TO KEEP MOVING FORWARD INTO THE NEXT MELENNIUM I THIN THEY ARE GONNA BE AROUND FOR A WHILE YET AND THEY ARE GONNA KEEP ROCKIN STRONG. I DONT LIKE THERE NEW GUITAR PLAYER BUT WHAT CAN I SAY THERE STILL ALIVE AND THERE STILL MAKIN THE RECORDS IF YOU DONT HAVE ADRENILIZE YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOUR MISSING IT IS LIKE THERE BEST EVER AND I DONT THINK IT IS "RE CREATING" HYSTERIA BECAUSE HYSTERIA IS UNTOUCHABLE AND THEY CANT DO IT AGIAN IF THEY TRIED BUT THEY HAVE ONE THING THAT WILL LAST THROUGH ALL OF THERE AULBUMS AND LIFETIME THAT IS THE "DEF LEPPARD SOUND" NOT TO BE CONFUSED BY THE AULBUM HYSTERIA I THINK THAT AULBUM JUST SET THE STANDARDS FOR WHAT YOUR GONNA HEAR FROM DEF LEPPARD SO GET THIS AULBUM AND GET ALL THE OTHERONES TOO! THERE GREAT! AND I THINK THEY HAVE A FEW MORE GREAT AULBUMS TO BE RELASED IN THE FUTURE SO KEEP ROCKING HARD!!!
Worst record ever recorded by the band...
It started with "On through the night" in 79 so Maybe we should call Def-Leppard a 70's band. They hit full circle in 1983 with "Pyromania" (Which has never been topped, no not even by "Hysteria" from 87. The boys keep the rock rollin' with this release from 1992. These bands which the music Industry has labeled wrongly as "Hairbands" would still be doing well if you wouldn't have let "MTV" and a minority of record buyers choose to dish this great stuff for "Grunge" "Hip Flop" and "(C)Rap" We would all still have our "APPLE PIE" of "Rock n Roll. But the good news is, the "Industry" has seen it's mistake and sees the demand for "Rockers" and Rock is on the rise. Now if we can convince them to grow some hair and look as cool as these guys did, we can all rest. Thank you. BRING BACK THE ROCK!!!!!
Some of the '80s bands were nothing but one-hit wonders, but Leppard is in the biz for good! With Adrenalize they mixed their already powerful ballad prowess with an ever evolving taste for great rock. When you get a phenomenal sound like Hysteria, the best you can do is keep that and build on it; that's exactly what they delivered with Adrenalize.
This album is a last breath of the great metal days of the '80s, stretched into the final year of 1992, before the tiresome "grunge" scene took over. The singles, "Let's Get Rocked" and "Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad" are yet more great releases with the easy to identify Def Leppard touch.
OK, so Hysteria had Rick Allen's car accident, but Adrenalize had Steve Clark's death. He is still sorely missed by loads of fans, but at least the last album he worked on was good. Yeah, there are some bad points, Let's Get Rocked being one of them, but on the whole this album has some great music. Personal favourites include Tonight, White Lightning and Tear It Down. You also have to remember that Phil Collen was left to play guitar for all the tracks, so that is an impressive feat. It's a bloody good attempt given their circumstances, and there is definitely enough great music on here to warrant 3.5 out of 5.
