    Wonderful compilation

A friend of mine has this album too, and when she played it, I rediscovered so many songs and some of them I never even knew were by Don Henley. I was so amazed. "Boys of Summer" and "End of the Innocence" I think are my two favorites. "All She Wa...nts to Do is Dance" is a great song for parties. "Last Worthless Evening" is so romantic that any girl who has a crush on Don could pretend that he's singing it to her. "Heart of the Matter" is so moving that my heart just cries, but I love it anyway. I not only love his voice, but also what he does with it; notes, words, etc. He is just a breath of fresh air (as is Steve Winwood). This CD is one of the best Greatest Hits compilations ever. Pro Reviews: Actual Miles: Henley's Greatest Hits

  • All Music Guide

Although it is drawn from only three albums (with only one track, "Dirty Laundry," from I Can't Stand Still), Actual Miles was a wellchosen bestof from an artist who had enjoyed just enough hits to justify one. Five tracks each came from Building the Perfect Beast and The End of the Innocence, and they included all of Don Henley's Top 40 hits. The album was filled out with a cover of Leonard Cohen's "Everybody Knows" and two new tracks, among them the ambitious "The Garden of Allah," which seemed to be an attempt to create a new allegorical masterpiece along the lines of "Hotel California," but managed to be only pretentious. Still, the bulk of this album was the sound of AOR radio in the mid'80s. That, of course, was the catch this album should have come out about four years before it did, and probably would have if Henley hadn't been suing Geffen Records. Though destined to be a successful catalog item, in 1995 it was more a historical artifact than a major release. - William Ruhlma...nn, All Music Guide Read more Less

Biography

Don Henley

Out of all of the Eagles, Don Henley had the most successful solo career. After the group broke up in 1982, Henley released his first solo album, I Can't Stand Still. Although it wasn't as successful as an Eagles record, the album performed respectably, launching the number three single "Dirty Laundry" and going gold. Building the Perfect Beast followed two years later ... Read more
