Pros: Cool and Rugged
Cons: Bit expensive
Good machine. Everything works well. would buy again.
Pros: A good idea, the tablet is not bad
Cons: lots
I know little about computers, but bought a C300 three weeks ago after being drawn into the hype about how fabulous tablet PC's are. Since then, my machine has crashed once (requiring me to take it back to Acer for repairs that took a week) and hung once, requiring a reboot. I lost a week's work when it crashed and now I am afraid to do any more work on it, in case it crashes again.
My IR device appears to be missing (I am presuming that the computer comes with it), the space bar key doesn't register key strokes all the time (which means I have to go over the stuff I write and space it), the machine is not as fast as I'd hoped and what's more, to get support I have to phone them (difficult for me as this requires an international call). I tried e-mailing Acer twice and after two weeks have still received no reply.
On the plus side, the tablet function is quite cool as a novelty, but the pen is not precise enough for very accurate registration, making work in art programs and the like difficult.
I have yet to notice the automatic screen brightness function in operation.
And to add insult to injury, I found out after my purchase that 'to get the best results from my computer' I should buy Office XP, and to use the voice recognition system, I should buy a 'high quality' microphone. I wish that Acer would put these kinds of things on their website so that I could have found out about it before I shelled out the money for the machine. I expected, for the price, that it would be an 'all-in' deal. All-in-all, it appears that I have purchased a 'bare bones' machine, and will have to pay quite a bit of money for software, accessories, RAM etc to get it up to the standard I had hoped it was when I bought it.
In conclusion, I have been sorely disappointed by the computer in particular and Acer in general. Unfortunately, this experience has put me off Acer for good. I will have to start saving for a new laptop computer again, and hope I can sell this one.
Pros: combines a really good laptop with a tablet for a reasonable price.
Cons: heavier than other tablets.
I've had a laptop as my only computer for a few years now, and when tablets started coming out I decided to wait for a tablet that gives me as much functionality as a good laptop, while adding the ability to annotate & draw on the screen, which I expect to use less frequently. The Acer C300 is basically the first to fulfill these requirements. I get just as much functionality as from any laptop (including a built-in DVD/CDRW), and then by a simple rotation I can use it to read & annotate documents while sitting comfortably on the couch. At $1,750 the price is reasonable as well. I've had it for a few days now and can't report any problems yet.
