    Pros: Quick reception, Accuracy, Sirf chip, WAAS, memory chip,

    Cons: Includes only a simple base map, more detailed maps must be purchased in addition

    I'm a forester and I use the Garmin 76CSx for work more than recreation. Its reliable, fast and accurate. I've used much higher grade units in the past but this unit has given me comparable results with less work at a fraction of the cost of ...the other units. It has the capacity to log enough waypoints and tracks for several days work. I can transfer data directly to my GIS software. Also, there are several third party software applications that work between this GPS unit and my GIS software. One in particular (DNRgarmin) allows photos of a waypoint to be directly inserted into the GIS application. I can also do live tracking with the Garmin 76CSx on my laptop. The Sirf chip also allows for better readings under tree canopies. If you want a mapping tool and not a toy, then this unit is for you. Read more Less
