Pros: Acting and Directing
Cons: None.
You've gotta love this film even if only for its smooth movie making and hilarious moments. This is one of Lily Tomlin's best! She only outdid herself later in the Incredible Shrinking Woman (1981).
Absolutely one of my favorite movies with three incredible ladies, especially Dolly Parton and Lily Tomlin. I have enjoyed this move for over twenty years and am so excited to soon have it on DVD. "That a girl"
A great movie, great performances by all. I really enjoyed the movie. I have seen this movie so many times, that I have somewhat memorized it. Job well done to Dolly for her musical addittion to the movie.
To say that 9 to 5 is not a TRUE story, would be false. Who, at one time or another, has dreamnt about "doing in" their boss. The difference is, these women, through a series of mishaps, have lived out their dreams.
When Dolly first read the script to play Dorlea Rhodes, she memorized the ENTIRE script. Now that's dedication!
This was a GREAT first movie for the Country Queen, and what a cast! It was Jane Fonda who wanted Dolly for the film.
The film also earned Dolly a Grammy award and an Oscar nomination for Best Song!
A DEFINATE MUST HAVE for any movie or Dolly fan!!!!
It's hard to believe it has been over 20 years since the release of this film. Topical when it was released, now it is not as dated as it should be. The reason is most likely the stars. Lily Tomlin, Dolly Parton and even Dabney Coleman fit their parts like a glove. Tomlin and Parton unfortunately have not had the roles worthy of their talent since. It's a shame because they are truly gifted at their crafts. Jane Fonda (at top billing) seems miscast. Maybe because she has always been outspoken as herself that one could not imagine her being the timid waif she is asked to play here. I did not buy her in 1980 and I do not now. Otherwise this is a fun entertainment that does hold up after two decades. Fox has created a nice widescreen transfer. First time ever letterboxed. There are a handful of various trailers but not much else. Too bad more suppliments could not be uncovered. Unfortunatley writer/director Colin Higgins has long since passed, and is missed. He was responsible for many of the 70's funniest comedies (as writer Harold & Maude and Silver Streak) and writer/director (Foul Play) and again with Parton as director of the film version of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. At around $20.00 9 to 5 is a nice collectable for your DVD library.
