As a member of the popular Eightball MJG duo, this large rapper labored for years in the Southern rap underground before making the jump from cult success to coast-to-coast stardom. His career began as part of the Memphis, TN, duo Eightball MJG back in the early '90s, when you had to be from either New York or Cali to get a major-label deal. The two took the indie route, garnering a cult following in the South long before anyone in New York or Cali even knew who Eightball MJG even were. By the end of the '90s, the two rappers were legends in the South, seen by most as pioneers of the Dirty South movement. In addition to his work with MJG, Eightball guested on countless songs and released solo albums, his debut being the triple-disc Lost (1997). By the time he released his second solo album in late 2001, Almost Famous, Eightball had never been more recognized yet still hadn't totally crossed over to mainstream success, hence the album title.
