The first thing that strikes me, looking at the content of this album, is the lack of at least 50 other great love songs Elvis did.
Then, it's about time somebody came up with this idea. The King Of Rock'n Roll really shows off what a great, ballad singer he really was. The cross-over between country, soul and gospel is evident here. The intimate
and tender LOVE ME TENDER all the way through to the powerfull UNCHAINED MELODY and every stop in between, gives the listener a more than twenty year span over the singer's vocal ranges. Not only did Elvis have a unique voice, but his remarkable talent gave a unique
quality to most songs he bothered to dig into.
Elvis was a melting pot of styles and musical directions. The way he gave birth to rock'n roll through his blend and mix of styles, stayed with him till his dying day. When listening to the ballad singer, you can easily
tell, as the tracks roll on, why Elvis is more
than "just" The King Of Rock'n Roll.
