The sequel to developer Terminal Reality's 2000 PC game, 4x4 EVO 2 is an off-road racing title featuring over 120 licensed trucks from the following nine auto manufacturers: Dodge, Jeep, Lexus, Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Chevrolet, GMC, and Infiniti. Each truck can be further customized through upgrades purchased after winning in a Career mode. Other modes include Free Roam, Time Attack, and Quick Race. A total of 32 outdoor tracks offer rugged terrain filled with sharp inclines, rocks, trees, and inclement weather.

Before racing, players can adjust the vehicle's tire type, transmission, suspension, brake balance, and handling. Other notable options include four weather conditions (clear, foggy, dense fog, or rain), adjustable laps from one to 20, and racing during midday or dusk. Time Attack has players competing for the fastest lap time, with a ghost image of the vehicle establishing the pace. Free Roam allows players to learn a course without worrying about time or opponents, but with the added incentive of finding a secret item.

Career is the main focus of play, where players start with 30,000 dollars to purchase a vehicle and then compete in four types of races: Series, Qualifying Events, Team, and Missions. Qualifying Events are single races that enable players to enter a Series, where they can earn cash by winning a tournament. Once players gain notoriety by winning, a special team race will open up on a specific course. The object is to beat four competing vehicles through five laps. Win the team event and special "membership" upgrades will become available for purchase.

Missions involve completing certain objectives for cash, using a map as a guide. A number of hidden areas are also awaiting discovery in this style of race, offering more chances to earn money. Acquired vehicles, parts, and career statistics are viewable from the garage players return to after each race. Players can sell vehicles, buy vehicles, and shop for performance enhancing equipment, such as new lights and better suspension. A car wash also exists to clean off mud and dirt so a truck can return to its showroom appearance. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

If you like to really get into off road racing then this is a good pick. If just want to race don't pick this game. If you want to think about suspension ratios and acceration to top speed ratios and aerdynamics this is the game for you. It is very... challenging to design a winning car. But it is definitly worth buying Read more Less
