| EXPERT RATING: From AMG Reviews Led by drummer and founder David Wasik and fronted by keyboardist/saxophonist Eric Crittendon, the Buffalo-based Waz is rounded out by upright bassist Edgar Henderson. Their 4 x 3 EP release documents four cuts of their acid jazz/groove-based sound. While the band members clearly fit well together, they are sometimes betrayed by small inconsistencies -- such as Crittendon's synthetically hollow piano sound on "So Su Di" and undermixed vocals on "T-Lo." Nonetheless, the trio makes a good showing for just under 20 minutes of playing, making their way through four tunes, propelled fluidly as each player switches between rhythm and melody. - Jesse Jarnow, All Music Guide |
