Product Description: 3Com Unified Gigabit Wireless PoE Switch 24
Integration of wired Layer 2 switching, wireless access points, and PoE support provide single go-to point for network deployment, management and troubleshooting, reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO). With centrally maintained access point settings, there is no need to individually configure each devices SSIDs, VLANs, access control lists and security settings.
Full 15.4 watts of IEEE 802.3af compliant power on every port assures that every connection can support every type of Ethernet device, 3Com IntelliJack, cameras, access points, VoIP phones and more.
The 3Com Unified Switch supports up to 24 access points (3Com Wireless 7760 11a/b/g PoE Access Point and 3Com Wireless 8760 Dual Radio 11a/b/g PoE Access Point) deployed using same or different policies (security, VLAN, QoS) for employees and guest visitors. Automatic discovery and configuration of supported access points minimizes the installation time and configuration of the wireless network.
Fast roaming provides quick handoff of user information and authorizations, enabling seamless roaming with session integrity and mobility robust enough to support voice traffic. Load balancing allows the switch to adjust user-to-AP ratio to maximize WLAN user throughput and performance.
IEEE 802.1X authentication in the 3Com Unified Switch centralizes authentication control and management of all network users, to help ensure that only authorized users access the network. Enterprise-class wireless encryption with WiFi CERTIFIED radios using WPA and WPA2, AES, TKIP and WEP encryption help protect and secure all wireless communications. Rogue access points can be a security threat to the network and the business. The Unified Switch can identify these unauthorized APs and can take mitigation actions.
The extensive VLAN and ACL capabilities of the 3Com Unified Switch provide scalable security and network design, while maintaining strict security and access control throughout the network.
The Unified Gigabit Wireless PoE Switch 24 delivers non-blocking 10/100/1000 wire speed Gigabit throughput to handle the most bandwidth-hungry applications. IEEE 802.1p Class of Service (CoS) and automatic assignment of Voice over IP (VoIP) traffic to dedicated VLANs helps ensure that critical time-sensitive traffic gets the priority needed for quality communications.
This product comes with support for unified management of up to 24 of these access points:
3Com Wireless 7760 11a/b/g PoE Access Point;
3Com Wireless 8760 Dual Radio 11a/b/g PoE Access Point;
Max. 30 users per AP radio; 250 wireless clients max. per switch.

Pros: Unified Management of LAN,WAN, POE and users
Cons: Only 24 port model available. Would like 48 ports
This product ROCKS!
My customer read the press release and asked us to bring one on to demo. We brought the unified switch in house and had the unit up and running in 10 minutes. The quickstart guide and install wizard in the box was pretty straight forward and we had both wired and wireless PCs connected up within a few minutes.
You can't find a 24 Port Gigabit switch with full PoE on every port for the $1800 we paid. And too boot, this unit includes a wireless controller that can manage our wireless APs. The controller alone would cost $3000 from Aruba or Cisco. It's like getting free wireless and radio management for free.
We'll be installing more of these as we recommend them to our clients. ...
