Best new band in a good while.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 10, 2005

    Pros: Great Music

Cons: None that i can think of.

This was their debut, I have to say that the label did not give them enough attention promotionally. It's a great cd. I find myself going back to it time & time again. Hard riffs and pretty good lyrics. Make this a must for modern rock fans.

Pros: Great lyrics, great sound, great stuff.

    Cons: None!

If you haven’t yet added 30 Seconds to Mars (or 30STM for short) to your list of “must listen to bands”, now is a great time to do so. The bands name may lead you to believe you’ll be listening to some spacey, Bowie-esque synth music. This is, ho...wever, not the case with 30STM, a rock band that various sites have compared to artists from Pink Floyd to Tool. This is a great CD for anyone who likes a degree of heaviness and dark melody to their music, without screaming or harsh vocals- their heavier tracks are on roughly the same level as Tool’s more melodic, softer pieces. br This is one heck of a CD. The songs are stories of personal struggle and emotions. To paraphrase Mr Leto, the singer/synths/guitar, the music uses otherworldly concepts and abstract ideas to illustrate personal situations. You won’t be disappointed with either the music or the vocals. 30 Seconds to Mars has a great singer, and one heck of a good drummer (his brother Shannon), along with a great guitarist (Tomo Milic Read more Less

    Good stuff.

If you love rock music - then you should absolutely own this album. If people just stopped trying to compare every new band with current bands then things would be ok. Why is it we have to label a band and/or put them in some sort of cliché'. ... This band is truly in a league of their own. It has a concept feel to the music and lyrics. How many groups just release albums to make an impact on the charts de-void of any musical and/or lyrical content. There was a lot of depth put into this album both lyrically and musically. The overall sound of this album is amazing! It was well recorded and layered very well to give it a rather unique sound. I promise if you like music and respect musicians that try to do something different you will not be disappointed in this album. Read more Less

    holy sh*t this is awesome

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jun 24, 2003

Jared Leto, who also is an actor in some movie such as My So-called Life, Fight Club, and Panic Room, delivers excellent talent in his music. This is by far one of my favorite albums EVER. EVERY SINGLE SONG on this cd is AWESOME. There are some cool ...sound effects in their music and it what makes 30STM musical talent unique. I bought this cd a long time ago for $8 and I thought it would be some cheap, dumb cd. The reason I bought it is because I saw the video for Capricorn (A Brand New Name) and I thought it just blew me away, so screw you for thinking of me buying this cd for a weird reason. So anyways, after I bought the cd I started listening to it, and I was literally brought into music heaven. As I said earlier, all the songs are great, but my favorite ones are Capricorn (A Brand New Name), Welcome To The Universe, Edge Of The Earth, End Of The Beginning, Oblivion, 93 Million Miles, and Buddha For Mary. In short, I just have to say this cd is F**KING GREAT. GO OUT AND BUY THE DAMN CD IF YOU HAVEN'T GOT IT YET! Read more Less

    A unique and impressive debut

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 3, 2002

Few bands can pull off an artful and commercial debut on a major label, but with the release of their self-titled new album, 30 Seconds to Mars have proven themselves as a unique, yet bludgeoning force to be reckoned with. From the beginning hit of t...he first track "Capricorn," the listener's interest is firmly grasped by a unique blend of hard rock and electronics with no intention of being let go. Directly afterward comes the sonic assault known as "Edge of the Earth." This song showcases vocalist Jared Leto's incredible talent as a singer and musician through his use of range and harmony. Other high points of the album include "The Mission" (a seemingly punk-influenced hard driving track which both maintains and develops the band's electronic sensibility), and the breathtakingly majestic "Oblivion."My only problem with this album is that the lyrics get almost self-indulgently vague at times, but are nevertheless necessary in blending with the band's otherworldly sound. Boring CD...

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 16, 2002

I first came across this album in a review that compared the band to Linkin Park and A Perfect Circle (exactly what those two bands have in common, I don't know). Although I don't know too much (read: anything at all) about "progressive rock", I get ...the feeling that Maynard James Keenan's brainchildren just might fall under that heading. Since I find both Tool and APC boring, as well, this seems reasonable. So the answer to paper_head's question is "No!" Despite the review I read, 30STM have little or nothing in common with Linkin Park (I can't help but be reminded of KoRn when listening to the opening bars of "Capricorn", though). Unfortunately for me, I happen to prefer "Hybrid Theory", which actually has tunes, to the solid barrage of noise on "30STM", which attacks the listener in damn-near the exact same way on EVERY F*CKING track on the album (with the exception of the opening of "Echelon"). Don't get me wrong: I'm not one of these trendy nu-metal/rap-rock guys. Hell, I dislike the amateurishness of such wannabe bands as "P.O.D.", "Papa Roach", and (most especially) "Crazy Town" as much as the next guy. But let's face it: 30STM is about as original as were Linkin Park when they first came out (ie. before they made billions and every other upcoming band had to sound like them). You want unique? Then I'd save my money for the new SOAD album, which should hit the streets in a month or two. Read more Less

    music you can FEEL

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 15, 2002

A few months ago I was at a battle of the bands at my school (Carleton University) and I heard a band that made me think of how amazing it is when the vocals make you stop everything you are doing and just feel the music. Well unfortunatly that band... wasn't 30 seconds, but when I bought this cd a few weeks ago that same effect occured. If you want to listen to music that makes you think, feel and yearn for more then 30 seconds to mars is for you. The sound is solid, powerful and original. The layering of instruments is so professional sounding that you would think these guys have been around for decades. I would best compare them to Fuel or I Mother Earth. My personal favourites are Capricorn (the first single), Oblivion, and The Mission. check out their website while you're listening, its not like you'll be able to do anything else once you hear them!!! www.thirtysecondstomars.c

    A Different Kind Of Breed

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 5, 2002

The band 30secondstomars has not only completed the new album, but delivered it with the best musicianship that listeners need. With their unique sound, 30secondstomars separates themselves from todays nu-metal brigade. The lyrics are inspiring and t...he way the voice is used in out of the this world. Nothing out there today is like this band. The band is way ahead of their time, the futuristic sound is one to be reckoned with. It has become a favorite amongst my collection. Five stars.
