Pro Reviews: 28 Days in the Yellow Room

  • All Music Guide

Valuable as a document of Rundman's sound in embryonic form, 28 Days in the Yellow Room provides strong hints as to what direction he would go in the coming years. A little less sure of himself than on future albums, Rundman nonetheless provides a few gems on his first recording, with tracks like "This July" and pop-punkish "When I Get Bored" laying out the blueprint for his solo work and his brief stint with the Muckrakers. Still, many of the tracks never seem to fully gel, and the use of drum machines is at times a negative distraction. Overall, though, this is just about what you'd expect of a debut: a few good songs, a few great ones, and a lot of echoes that will only fully resonate later in his career.
