XR200 equals holes in the pocket.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Apr 23, 2008 | 1 out of 1 found this 26" Mongoose XR 200 review helpful

Pros: Excellent gear ratios, Awsome brake and suspension performance.

    Cons: Comfort, De-railer, weak rims.

As long as you replace the plastic de-railer, Rims, And Seat, this would make a great racing bike. I love entering bike compotitons. I bought this bike specificlly for that but the second week of owning this the de-railer snaped. I was slowly riding up hill, down shifted and it snaped off. The seat hurts your rumpous after a few minutes, and the rear rim does not support enough weight and i am only 5' 8" at 165 IBS.

    Great Bike

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 29, 2007 | 1 out of 3 found this 26" Mongoose XR 200 review helpful

    Pros: Rides and looks great

    Cons: none

I have had everything from Huffy, GT Pro Performer to Diamondback. The Mongoose XR200 is equal to the quality of the others. For $169.00 at Walmart, one can upgrade the components to their needs. It is a good bike for the value. I took it out on a 10 mile ride and the only issue i had was the soreness in my tush. That can be resolved with a gel seat cushion. I love the fact that the front wheel can be removed so easily, that makes storage easy.

    $165 Well Spent

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 28, 2007 | 3 out of 4 found this 26" Mongoose XR 200 review helpful

Pros: It rides very well over bumpy terrain(I weigh just a touch over 200 lbs)..the gear ratios work well for me , and the frame is big enough for someone 6 foot tall

Cons: ok , the front brake doesn't work , the kickstand needs a lockwasher to stay on and it's heavy

Mongoose and Walmart took some obvious savings in putting this thing together , and if this were my only bike I might be more annoyed. The kickstand wants to come off and it is part of the weight problem. I am concerned about the crank bearings and may replace them this fall. Something is apparently wrong in the design of this disc brake.

However , there is a lot I like about this bike. I am on it sometimes for 6 hours per day as part of my business. I ride it through peanut fields. The gear ratios help me break through sandy spots and heavy vines. The suspension does a good job of smoothing over the raised peanut beds no matter how fast I am pedaling. I bought this bike to abuse and wear out in a season, all the time planning to donate its corpse to a worthy charity at harvest. It is holding up so well though that I am thinking of replacing some of the parts over time to lower the weight. I really like the frame and the ride , and I definitely got my money's worth.

    Pros: see review

    Cons: see review

i'll start off with the cons,
the rims are flimzy, first day and first jump 6' drop and i'm 225lbs the rear rim folded,
the drive train makes weird clicks and noises,
the front crank got all messed up after a little sand mud and water,

    REPLACE THE SEAT POST !!!!!!!!!
this is a must, the teeth holding the seat angle are made of cheap aluminum, if i had pictures i would show you first hand that making the nuts tighter just dosn't work, the new seat post was $22

the rims, even the $35-45 cheaper rims at a bike shop are better than stock,

the crank was upgraded from the exposed baerings to sealed, the part cost $18-25 and can easilly be done by your local bike shop tech,

and for saftey just go through the bike and make sure all the allan screws are tight.

    now for the good stuf,
after all the repairs were complete i took the bike out for a thrashing, the frame is decent for a starter, the rear spring will become a little sloppy but a few turns of the stoper will fix it right up, the front fork needs to break in as any part dose but it handles the bumps decently, but it's not a bike i would trust for insane down hills or jumping all the time,

    over all -
after the new rims, seat post, crank -(optional depending on what you plan on puting the bike through) it is a decent beater, but if you have a nother 200-300 to spend and want a full suspension bike i would recomend you go to a real bike shop and listen to what they have to say,

    Don't waste your time.

Pros: Not the biggest waste of money I ever spent?

    Cons: Read below.

I bought this bike just to get back on a bike and enjoy some excorsise with my daughter. If thats what you're using it for it works but I still wouldnt recommend it. I soon got the bug for light off road trails and thats where this thing really started smellin. Hard pedalling loosens up the cages on the pedals, put some lock tite on em NOW. The cranks made more noise than a mouse trapped under my left foot. The front "disc" brake was the worst brake I ever used in my life, no amount of adjustment made it safe. A couple of light jumps and my rear wheel was bent, walmart does not stock replacement wheels. The local lbike shop charged me $65 for one, almost 1/2 what I paid for the bike. The rear shock is poorly mounted and flexes badly stealing way too much pedalling power. Not good considering its weight of 42 lbs, nearly 13 lbs heaver than a comparable hardtail. If this hasnt detered you consider this... Wally world does not tune thier bikes, you will have to go to your local bike shop to the tune of about $50. After a month or so of regular riding you will have to go back because cables stretch for another $50 tune up. $160 for the bike and $100 in tune ups and now you have a $260 bike. For $260 there are better options at your local bike shop who will probably give you a number of free tune ups. You will get a better bike and enjoy your ride more.

    Mongoose XR 200

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 11, 2007 | 2 out of 2 found this 26" Mongoose XR 200 review helpful

    Pros: Very good features.

    Cons: Saddle too tough.

It's been two years now since I bought it and I think it was a good deal. I use it daily to come and go to work, about two miles. I chose this bicycle because of its rear suspension design, which IMHO has less tendency to flex, you can tell since it looks more like a regular rigid triangle than others. The main problem I had with this bike was a twisted rear deraileur after a small accident. I also changed the saddle for a bigger and softer one and added some nice black plastic fenders from Planet Bike.

    My Mongoose XR 200

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 8, 2007 | 4 out of 4 found this 26" Mongoose XR 200 review helpful

    Pros: Smooth Ride

    Cons: none

I bought a Mongoose XR 200 and I am extremely proud of it. I am an avid cyclist and I enjoy being outdoors on my many adventures. My new bike rides smooth and has a mind of its own. It can flat move with not too much efort from my personal leg power. I love it!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 10, 2006 | 4 out of 4 found this 26" Mongoose XR 200 review helpful

    Pros: near perfect frame

Cons: no aftermarket lightweight parts support

walmart assembly aside (very poor, and no cable stretch support) gusseted aluminum frame ought to be nearly indisructible (one time 16 foot drop w/ 200# weight proved no change to aluminum frame geometry). front disk wont lock up, could be a control issue to some. also, comfort issues for large adult riders (6'2" long) can be fixed by offering offset seat posts and matching handlebars. i use a steering tube extention. the stock seat is no good for enduro/commuter, i use an aftermarket full padded gel. the stock seat is only good for the end of short competive race victory cruse. I keep the stock seat in a spare parts locker. stock rims didnt bend with 1g #200 load. once, this bike managed a full flight of concrete stairs without a failure of mechanicals or change of geometry. the top end gears could be better on flat tracks, but that is the speed freak talking. i use aftermarket (bell) slick road tires to save the stock Kendas for winter conditions. the weak spot in the frame, in my opinion, is an ungusseted rear suspention mount lug. that issue will be corrected by this owner with a visit to a commercial metals fabrication company. i also plan to have that company make a rear suspention assembly in titanium at a later time. this stock bike, after cable break in, and dealer (walmart) upgrades, for the average build consumer makes a bike that will, in my opinion, either out live the interest of the owner, or that of the next owner. it may be heavy, but that makes it a good trainer. with upgrades, a durable, amature racer.
