    The Jacksons New Jack Swing!

    By Brandon  Oct 23, 2004

Pros: Great Lead and Background Vocals and Hip Hop Beats

    Cons: No Michael or Marlon

The Jacksons last album, 2300 Jackson St. is a great record. The album went gold and spun off 2 hits, the title track and Nothin (That Compares 2 U). The album top tracks are: Nothin (That Compares 2 U), SHE, Private Affair, Art of Madness, Maria, ...and Midnight Rendezvous. 2300 Jackson St, Harley, Alright W/ME, Play it Up, and If You'd Only Believe are not far behind. Jermaine and Randy sing most of the leads and they're great. If Michael had done the album, it would probably had been one of the biggest hits of 1989. He and Marlon only did the title track. This is the Jacksons 2nd best album, tied w/Destiny, but only behind their mega hit album TRIUMPH back in 1980. Read more Less

    Suprising

This album is quite a suprise to say the least. Some of the tracks are quite impressive considering that only one track is with without Michael Jackson. Listen to the tracks 'She' and 'Nothin' and you will never find 2 other non-Michael tracks to be...at them. The music/vocal style is similar to Prince and Bobby Brown and works quite well. All in all, this album is a prime example of The Jackson's without Michael doing their best to get out of their famous brothers' shadow. Worth a listen if you are interested in what The Jackson's sound like without Michael. Read more Less

  • All Music Guide

This was the final gathering of the entire Jackson family, and it turned out to have both historical significance and some musical value. The team of L.A. and Babyface, then emerging as major producers, spearheaded the track "Nothin' Compares to U," and the title track was a nice autobiographical/family outing song.

Biography

The Jackson 5

The Jackson 5 were one of the biggest phenomenons in pop music during the early '70s, and the last great group to come out of the Motown hitmaking machine before Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder shifted the label's focus to more individual visions. The Jackson 5's infectious brand of funky popsoul was a definite departure from the typically smooth, elegant Motown sound, as... Read more
