2006 FIFA World Cup Xbox 360

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 31, 2006 | 0 out of 1 found this 2006 FIFA World Cup review helpful

Pros: Excellent soundtrack and good commentary; fast-paced gameplay; great player animations and tv-style presentation

Cons: Lacks the other versions' FIFA lounge mode; poor goalkeepers.

Gameplay options in 2006 FIFA World Cup include quick matches, online play, practice sessions, and penalty shoot-outs. In addition to those football game staples, you also get global challenge scenarios and, of course, a chance to guide your favorite international team through the World Cup competition. The World Cup mode will almost certainly be your first port of call, and although its default settings see you assuming control of one of the 32 teams that qualified for the finals, it's possible to play as any of around 125 different teams from all over the world. Furthermore, you have the option to take your chosen team through the relevant territory's qualification process or to jump straight to the last 32 teams using real or randomly generated group information.

The presentation throughout the World Cup mode, and throughout the entire game, is great. Before each match you'll see a camera, which is positioned somewhere in orbit around the Earth, zoom in on the appropriate German stadium, and then you'll be treated to flybys of the grounds where it looks like almost every supporter in the crowd came through the turnstiles armed with streamers, confetti, and balloons. You'll also get to listen to one of the game's many licensed songs, which come from an eclectic soundtrack spanning some 14 countries. Good pre-match commentary replete with World Cup trivia and anecdotes is the icing on the cake, and as your players line up on the pitch before kickoff, you feel both excited and nervous at the same time--exactly as you'd expect to before a real match.

FIFA 06 - EA shaping up?

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 22, 2006

    Gameplay - 8

EA is finally shaping up and improving what really needs to be improved, its gameplay. This edition of Fifa is actually comparable to that of Winning 11's gameplay, which was one of the best soccer games ever. Although Fifa could improve in some areas such as its passing and control layout. When you are trying to steal a ball and you continually press B and then once you get it, and then it goes for the shot it pisses you off. They at least could of put some though into them ecspecially in transition when you are going from offense to defense. I know you can change the controls its just that after using them and getting used to it, so I cant switch now (ya I know what an excuse). What I do love about it though is the shooting control, it gives you full control of the ball once you know how to use it and the ability to shoot long range shots without sacrificing accuracy. I also like the little additions such as the Virtual Magazine which provides rankings from qualifying rounds and tells you if you moved up or down since you last qualified. Global challenge is also a nice addition, getting to play in historic matches and earn points which you can spend on old players, new soccer balls, and even legendary teams.

    Graphics - 7.5

The only time you ever get an idea of how the graphics looks is when you're in replay mode and when the game first starts. The lighting is great, except for on the ball, and it has grass! The only reason I am happy about that is because after playing Madden for so long it seems as if they made the biggest jump ever. The textures themselves could use some work on the players and crowds. There seems to be a bigger issue with EA's crowds though, they are all the same. I also never once saw a flag as big as the ones in the game in real life, that addition was pointless into the game it takes away form the realism.
Sure it adds to the feeling of the game but what's the point of the feeling if its not like real life.

    Audio - 9.5

The sound in this game is second to none. The announcers voice and in game sound is superb but what really helps this category out is its soundtrack. EA did well by including over 35 songs from around the world giving you the sense of how world wide the sport and tournament in itself is. You can view the soundtrack by going to (http:/

    www.easports2006fifaworld
    cup.com/
    gameinfo/
    ?id=3576
) and clicking EA TRAX on the right hand side.

    Value - 6.5

At the price of $59.99 (USD) it is a bit exspensive ecspecially since Fifa: RTTWC is only $29.99. The only reason to go for this game is if you really want to play in the World Cup and like the extra features, but also if you want the extras such as Global Challenge. Another thing to note about this game is it does not include clubs in free play like RTTWC, so its kind of a give off either way you go. I personally would suggest this version over the other unless you do not have the extra money or want to play as a club team.
