    2001: A Space Odyssey

    By TomT  Aug 28, 2006

Pros: Dazzling visuals, thought-provoking ambiguity, magnificent music and sound

Cons: Some fx shots are slightly dated.

Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece. The greatest science fiction film ever made, tracing and speculating on man's evolution and his place in the universe. Very subtle and ambiguous confrontation between man and an ultra-advanced extraterrestrial l...ife form. Fascinating theological implications on a purely scientific level. Though some fx shots are slightly dated, the film remains as visually dazzling as it was in 1968. Magnificent score from classical and avant garde musical sources. My favorite film. Read more Less

Three Defining Moments in the Evolution of Man

    By Sean  Jun 26, 2006

    Pros: Beautiful, Majestic

    Cons: Slow

It's really hard to explain 2001, a sci-fi masterpiece. Broken into three parts, we travel from the dawn of man, to the not-to-distant future as we reach our next major evolutionary advance. This is a movie that is often refered to in popular cul...ture, in several episodes of "The Simpsons", for example, and the ubiquitous theme from the Dawn of Man. This is a slow movie, even for Kubrick, be prepared for 15 minutes of no dialogue or action, but constantly beautiful shots and masterful imagery. Read more Less
