    Very Good CD 2 Buy

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jun 8, 2003

This cd is a very good cd to buy. I listned to all of the tracks, and the slower love song ones have great lyrics to them. The background music just compliments the lyrics of this cd more. There are maybe 1 or 2 songs that are likable, but not great.... But the amount of good tracks on this cd, way out values, the 1 or 2 songs that I don't care for to much, nor do I dislike them. I would recommend this cd. Great R&B cd, and worth having in a collection. Peace out and Much luvDrew Read more Less

    High Wattage

Unlike Tyrese's playful, but mindless debut, he really blows me away with his newest effort 2000 WATTS, a crossover hip-hop success. Tyrese weaves his silky vocals with bangin' beats and hard-edged beats and bass. The Underdogs-produced "I Like Them ...Girls" is probably the sweetest thing in music to be heard lately, unlike forgettable riffs from the likes of Michael Jackson, Joe, Tank, and even Usher to a certain extent. Then follows the Rodney Jerkins-produced "I Ain't the One," in which an R&B crooner finally tells his girl, "Baby baby/ I ain't the one/ To get your hair and your nails done/ Girl I'm not about to buy you everything/ Like material things/ Shopping sprees, baby that ain't me." Then Snoop Dogg and Mr. Tan work impressive raps in the track following "Just A Baby Boy." Other rap artists turn in impressive performances like JD on the catchy "Off the Heezy," and Sole on the tuneful "Get Up On It."Much of the balladry is breath-taking, especially on "I'm Sorry," "Make Up Your Mind," "What Am I Gonna Do," and "There For Me (Baby)." 2000 WATTS is the most underappreciated album of 2001 that deserved to be so much more than people treated it. It would be easy to dismiss Tyrese as just another pop pretty boy. Looking at his previous work as a model and VJ, it's hard not to classify him as a musician more concerned with commercial success than any real musical artistry. Listening to 2000 Watts, even the most cynical of RB fans would have to admit that Tyrese has real talent. Flanked by a series of heavyweight producers such as Rodney Jerkins and Jermaine Dupree, Tyrese delivers a series of ballads and up-tempo numbers that are bound to appeal to fans of BET and TRL, respectively. His first single, "I Like Them Girls" is a bouncing homage to women. Equally impressive is "There for Me (Baby)," a melodic ballad produced by Babyface. After a relative successful debut album, 2000 Watts demonstrates that Tyrese is a legitimate RB talent with a lot more skills than a lot of people expected.

Biography

Tyrese

RB singer Tyrese began his career at the age of 14, performing in local talent shows around his home in Los Angeles' Watts section; his big break came when he starred in a commercial for Coca-Cola, shortly followed in 1998 by his self-titled debut album for RCA. He followed three years later with 2000 Watts. - Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide Read more
