Pros: MUSIC FLOWS WELL.
Cons: SOME OF THE TRANSITIONS.
In all aspects this cd is great. I have listened to it many times. Its not one of those cds that you need to listen to a few times to like. This one grabs you from the first time. If you like a cd that you feel like getting lost in, this is the one.
Pros: its awesome!!
Cons: leaves me wanting more
These guys rock as always...Just can't get enough...
Pros: THE BEST BASS AND DRUM COMBO IN THE BIZ
Cons: WORE OUT MY CD PLAYER!!!!
Once again Maynard James Keenan and the boys have done some amazing work! The true shame is that these guys havent won multiple Grammys.... it just goes to show that ground breaking sounds and originality are seldomly awarded in the music biz....
Pros: its awesome
Cons: leaves me wanting more
These guys rock as always...Just can't get enough...
Pros: It is Tool
Cons: They seem to have slowed down and spaced out...
All of the songs are good, once they start picking up a little. And don't get me wrong the album is great and definitely not something I quit listening to. In fact with every listen I liked it more. Its just that if you want the heavier Tool, like how they used to be, you might be dissapointed. If you are willing to let them shape what you like and you can appreciate how they have evolved, then you won't be dissapointed. Not for stubborn listeners.
Pros: its awesome
Cons: leaves me wanting more
These guys rock as always...Just can't get enough...
Pros: As you would expect a Tool album to be
Cons: As you would expect the long awaited album to be
The band delivers another tribal-esque rendering of their own brand of mood-ladden musical stylings and comes out on top. Their are moments when you think that it might be a little mellower, but that in itself, is a Tool trademark (hey, they are "heavy metal",right? lol)
and is okay, just fine. If you liked Lateralus, you'll probably like this just as much or almost as much as the last one.
All, in all, a good review. Vicarious and The Pot with Rosetta Stoned are the highlights of this album and more than carry the weight of rock and rol legendary status that has been bestowed upon them for years now. Also, the cd comes packaged with stereophonic lenses so you view the artwork within with enhanced 3d vision that pops out at the viewer, and it also, is as previous Tool art. Cheers! Enjoyed it very much.
Pros: its awesome
Cons: leaves me wanting more
These guys rock as always...Just can't get enough...
Pros: It's a new Tool Album
Cons: It's not longer
Ahhhh
my first review, actually this is the first thing Ive gotten/done that I felt deserved a review. So here it is, Tools new album, 10,000 Days was released last Tuesday (5/2/06) to somewhat minimal fanfare. In fact, I didnt even hear the first single, Vicarious, on either of the two modern rock stations in town although it did seem that Forty-six and 2 had been getting some additional airplay. But I digress
Like the last two Tool albums there are really a couple of things the listener should be paying attention to: 1) the musicianship, 2) the lyrical content and 3) the packaging.
As always, the musicianship is superb. Danny (drums and percussion) and Justin (bass) have to be one of the best rhythm sections in rock. The way that Justins bass lines complement Dannys complex rhythm patterns is astounding. The impact is brought not just by playing along with the beat but by playing against it. This makes an already impossible sounding rhythm pattern even more textured. But Justins playing doesnt just serve the drums. He is also at times called upon to be the back bone of a song as is the case in Rosetta Stoned. Justin and Adam (guitar) play a heavy riff in unison that is the meat of the song and periodically diverge to occupy other spaces with in the song. Adam, by his own admission, is not the most technically gifted guitar player in music but he is able to create from his palette the most beautiful and interesting sonic landscapes. He is alternately a part of the rhythm section and melody, sometimes all within the same song. His preferred tuning is drop-D tuning which allows that flexibility. On Vicarious he is playing an intricate riff in the beginning of the song reminiscent of Schism (from their last album) which acts as part of the rhythm section but also gives a sense of melody. Then it becomes an all out power chord assault playing within and against the rhythm giving the listener a profound auditory experience as they try to follow the different threads in the fabric. Maynards voice is also impressive. His vocalizations are not exactly what you expect for the music but there is not a doubt that it is the only voice that can ever be the voice of Tool. As Tool fans have come to expect there is some musical experimentation combining dark melodies, abstract rhythms, feedback and ghostly vocals, Lipan Conjuring, or dialogue and music as song, Lost Keys (Blame Hoffman), a reference to Dr. Albert Hoffman who is known as the Father of LSD. These types of songs make for eerie but etheral background music but also give the listener a break from the more traditional songs.
Maynard has out done himself again. The albums songs are a mixture of spiritual message, mourning and biting social commentary. In Vicarious, the albums first single and first track, he exposes the unexplainable habit/need for humans to watch others experience life, fictional or otherwise, while sitting in our living rooms. Not just that but also our need to act as if it is something we dont do, hypocrisy. Wings for Marie (Part 1) and 10,000 Days (Part 2) are songs that combine Christ-figure imagery and the mourning of his mother. Wings for Marie (Part 1) is tender eulogy expressing anger, hurt and the isolation of emotional pain. 10,000 Days (Part 2) is a reference (I believe) to how long his mother survived after a massive stroke. The song describes how her caretakers (presumably her family) sacrifice to take care of her but actually only served themselves and their own needs. He goes on to vilify the mourners at her funeral for not being there when she was alive but makes the minimal sacrifice of showing up at her funeral. Like all sons (this one is no exception), he canonizes his mother thanking her for all that she gave of herself to him. Another song of interest is Rosetta Stoned. What makes this song so unique is the way the dialogue is recorded. The dialogue consists of a person (identity unknown) r
Pros: Great Dark Mystical Sound
Cons: Heard Some of the Riffs Before
This is a great CD. Continues the tradtion they established with Undertow and Aenima. you can tell they have grown as musicians. They continue to surprise me with their waelth of creativity.
Pros: The band limist ther commercial sound to the opening track. Returns to sound from "Undertow" and "Aenima"
Cons: The opener is uncomfortable. It is very abrupt. It should have been placed later on the album.
Tool returns to form on 10,000 Days by utilizing the sound that set them apart from other bands so many years ago. The difference in this album from its predecessor, "Lateralus" is that the commercial sound is limited to the disc's opening track, "Vicarious." It sounds a lot like "Schism", (the lead single from "Lateralus.") It opens very abruptly, but once you get past the opening, you fully hear the band's musicianship. Danny Carey proves time and again on this release why he is without argument one of the BEST drummers in the business. His ability with polyrythmic patterns can be compared to very few other drummers. Maynard's vocals are as tuned as ever. His voice is hypnotic. It is like an angel and a demon fighting inside him. The guitars shine throughout time and again. They pay full attention to dynamics. Given, the listener cannot always understand what Maynard is saying, the lyrics are a moot point. It is the control that he has over his instrument. While many critics may pan the band again for sticking to their trademark sound, that sound is what has kept them set so far from so many flash in the pan bands. "10,000 Days" is the album that "Lateralus" Should have been. A must have for Tool fans and of real music.
Pros: All the pros in the world
Cons: No Flaws what so ever!
