Pros: Everything about the album is a pro!

    Cons: There are no cons!

This is simply the greatest album in the history of music! The most beautiful music I have ever heard. I never thought I would use the term "spiritual metal" to describe a band or an album, but I think it works here. I hate to hear revie...wers compare this band to Pink Floyd or King Crimson. I'm sorry, but this band is second to none and in my opinion it's insulting to compare them to anyone!!!!! Read more Less

For its third release, Tool explores the progressive rock territory previously forged by such bands as King Crimson. However, Tool is conceptually innovative with every minute detail of its art, which sets it apart from most bands. Make no mistake, this isn't your father's rock record. Sonically, the band has never sounded tighter. Long exploratory passages are unleashed with amazing precision, detail, and clarity, which only complements the aggressive, abrasive shorter pieces on the album. There is no compromise from any member of the band, with each of them discovering the dynamics of his respective instrument and pushing the physical capabilities to the limit. Topics such as the philosophies of Bill Hicks (eloquently eulogized in the packaging), evolution and genetics, and false martyrdom will fly over the heads of casual listeners. But those listening closely will discover a special treat: a catalyst encouraging them to discover a world around them to which they otherwise might hav...e been blinded. If these aren't good enough reasons to listen to Aenima, then just trust the simple fact that Tool delivers the hard rock goods every time the band chooses to release something. - Rob Theakston, All Music Guide Read more Less

Biography

Tool

Tool's greatest breakthrough was to introduce dark, vaguely underground metal to the preening pretentiousness of art rock. Or maybe it was introducing the self-absorbed pretension of art rock to the wearing grind of post-thrash metal -- the order really doesn't matter. Though Metallica wrote their multi-sectioned, layered songs as if they were composers, they kept their... Read more
