(Photo: iStock)Holiday shopping season is here, and Santa's little helpers have been busy — on the Web.
We took a look at gift-related Yahoo searches from the past week. Spoiler alert: The giving — and the getting — looks good.
To begin, Furby — the furry robot — is back. Searches on "Furby Boom 2013" are up 300 percent over the past seven days.
Toys R Us calls it "A new generation of Furby." The toys come speaking something called "Furbish" but supposedly learn English words in a way meant tomimic actual language acquisition. Since Furby's launch in 1998, 40 million of the toys have been sold in 57 countries, according to NPR.
In September, Walmart conducted some kid-based research in anticipation of the holiday season. The mega-retailer invited "1,000 kids ages 18 months to 10 years to test, play with, and help select the top toys for the season," according to a press release. Nice work if you can get it.
The kids' top picks, according to the corporation: VTech Go! Go! Smart Wheels — Train Station Playset; Sofia the First Talking Sofia and Animal Friends (the doll speaks with toy animals that are placed close to her); and the Flutterbye Flying Fairy Doll. This one actually floats in the air, guided by achild's hand. Barbie Dream House and Furby also made the cut, as did the Big Hugs Elmo toy.
