Spring lip colors to flip for
Counting down the days til spring? I sure am. But even when the days and nights are chilly, it doesn’t stop me from rocking some spring lip color inspirations.
I’ve hunted down awesome lip products for spring, breaking them down by color trends. Spring looks like it is full of classy coral and sizzling bold bright looks. Excited yet?
Crazy for Coral:
Yves Saint Laurent – Rouge Volupte Shine in Corail Intuitive, and Coral Incandescent. $34, sephora.com
I'm kicking this list off with the Cadillac of lipsticks; YSL. Owning only one of these will make you feel like an instant celeb, and add a little bit of weight to your handbag.
These luxurious lipsticks are something worth putting money into your “Lipstick Jar” savings. Two new colors for the season, Corail Intuitive (a soft shimmering peachy-coral) and Coral Incandescent (a bright, spicy coral) have emerged and they’re hard to pass up. The comfortable feel and satin shine from this product will definitely impress.
Tarte Glamazon Pure Performance 12- hour lipstick – Coral, $26, sephora.com
I have to thank Tarte for creating quality natural products. This 12-hour wear lipstick is without parabens (do research on what this means for you) which is something I tend to look out for when choosing cosmetic products. This playful shade of pink-coral will perk up any look and is one of those shades that looks just right on all skin tones.
Bold and Bright
:
Stila Color Balm Lipstick - Betsey , $22, sephora.com
Bold lips with a nude face (no blush, no eyeshadow) were seen at Giles Deacon during Fashion week last year for Spring 2013. You hardly need anything more when you’re sporting bright lips, they’ll do all the work.
This creamy fuchsia color from Stila is loaded with full pigmented color but adds the softness of a lip balm with a glossy finish. (Bonus: No parabens!)
Sephora Collection Color Lip Last - #11 Forever Fuchia , $12, sephora.com
For those who prefer a long-wear color (my lip color bleeds with brighter shades) the Sephora Collection has a great collection of long-lasting shades with 10-hour wear.
Rock this fuchsia hot pink all day and night with some fierce false lashes for an unforgettable face.
Wine barrel o’ fun
:
New York Fashion Week Spring 2013 saw red and wine defined lips at Jason Wu, with models sporting fuller brows and very minimal eye makeup.
Buxom Full Bodied Lipstick – Menace, $22, sephora.com
This rich wine shade with flecks of gold also serves as a lip-plumper (no tingle!) to give your pout that extra oomph! With coconut oil and vitamins C and E, this lipstick also will moisturize and protect your lips.
Chubby lip pencils are very trendy and will be the hottest makeup must-have for spring.
Bite Beauty High Pigment Matte Pencil in Bramble, $24, sephora.com
This high pigment matte pencil by Bite Beauty is the perfect shade of deep wine that also offers antiaging benefits; this pencil contains the same amount of resveratrol than 5 glasses of red wine, which means this pencil was made to combat aging skin. Made with food-grade ingredients, this pencil is good enough to take a “bite” out of.
In the nude
:
We all need an everyday wearable lip color for the office, quick runs to the store, meeting your boyfriend’s parents for the first time, you catch my drift?
As I stated above, these chubby lip pencils are all the rage, and I personally picked this item as the “stays in my purse” go-to lip product.
Soap & Glory – Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick in Nudist, $16 .. with vanilla flavor! Very yummy.
The Soap & Glory gloss stick, Nudist, is a universally flattering natural pink/beige shade with flecks of silvery sparkle.
Bobbi Brown High Shimmer Lip Gloss – Beach, $24
Glistening shine with pink pearl reflections, this will look quite stunning as an everyday gloss.
Orange you glad Spring is almost here?
Orange, poppy lip color is huge this spring. Seen at London and New York Fashion Week, the look is satin or matte lip color with very minimal eyeshadow and blush. The lips should be the standout feature of the face.
This jumbo pencil from Sephora can be used on the lips and cheeks for an all-over look, with a feel of a balm with the look of a gloss.
Sephora Collection – Pastel Pop Jumbo Glossy Lip Pencil in Orange, $10
NARS – Heat Wave, $26
NARS brings us the semi-matte orange-red lip look that is quite the sizzling number.
This long-lasting bold color features a full-pigmented look, so this is not for the faint of heart.
Just peachy !
Those who are a little intimidated by the bold orange look can find safety with peach. Peach makes a great daytime color and looks great on just about all skin tones.
YSL Rouge Pur Couture – Vernis A Levres Glossy Stain,27 Peche Cerra-Cola, $34
This new and revolutionary “glossy-stain” by YSL creates a glossy look but wears like a stain.
There are gals who just can’t live without gloss, so for the gloss fans, there is Napoleon Perdis - Luminous Lip Veil Gloss, Pretty in Peach,$23
I was a fan of Napoleon’s “Set” cosmetics line that was in Target stores, but now that it looks to be gone from the stores, I set my sights on his designer name brand.
The lip gloss is the consistency of a liquid lipstick with vitamin E and C to help nourish lips.
Ravishing red
We saw matte red lips at the Prada show, and I saved this for last since I am not sure how daring everyone is willing to be this spring. I normally apply hot red lips at night with only a black liquid liner and soft black lashes, minimal blush. The look on the runway was absolutely no makeup (foundation was applied to perfect the complexion), but with a bold, lined red lip. The look is very defined, refined and dramatic.
This matte lip color from Kevyn Aucoin is brand new, and can be pre-ordered at Neiman Marcus. This shade of red is classic, but one of the best features is the formula which contains ingredients that guarantee to minimize wrinkles over time. Does this mean we have to wear it 24/7? Might be a good excuse!
Pre-order Kevyn Aucoin matte lip color in Eternal. Shipping no later than 3/22, $32.
MAC Cosmetics is known for their wide array of lipstick colors and finish choices. This infamous color, Russian Red, has been spotted on countless celebs, including Gwen Stefani, Scarlett Johansson, Kim Kardashian and Christina Aguilera.
MAC Russian Red, 15, nordstrom.com
Are you daring enough to debut your spring look with hot red lips?
