    Stephen King's "Cell"

By Anna Grady  May 6, 2006

    Pros: instantly addictive

    Cons: explanations would have helped

This is a story about cell phones transmitting a pulse that causes widespread reprogramming of the human brain. It's now a world of normies and savage phoners. The story centers around one man and his attempt to reach his loving family hoping they ar...e okay. WOW. This was hands down, the coolest first few pages I've read in a very very long time. Instantly memorable. It's the rest of the book I was disappointed with. Great character development but poor explanation of anything. Worth a read though. 6/10 Read more Less

I never did like cell phones

Pros: I enjoyed the overall concept

Cons: fo fo you you ... is not an ending

Though most people are probably more upset with the ending I found something else a tad disturbing with this novel . I've always thought stephen king had he not gone into writing would make a great sociology professor mainly for the way he captures w...hat normal people would do in horrible situations . And for the most part I hold the opinion he got it right , unlike the stand the survivors of "the pulse" have an "in-group" mentality whereas in the stand those left alive try to seek out other survivors . But on the flip side the book really didnt delve that deep into the psychological appoach instead it seemed SK wanted to dwell on the techie side of things and this is where I think he went wrong . Had he wrote it vice versa I believe the plot would have been far more terrifying and with a very diffrent ending. Read more Less
