    HTC Thunderbolt 1st Impressions

By Don  Mar 22, 2011 | 22 out of 22 found this HTC ThunderBolt Charcoal Gray Smartphone - Verizon Wireless review helpful

Pros: Exceptional HD Resolution, impressive speed, and easy to use

Cons: Weak battery and unstable embedded Apps

Having opted to not follow trends and grab the latest, greatest phones at launch, this is my first Smartphone (previously on LG Dare). After approximately 36 hours of ownership, here's a few things I've noticed.Pros:It's intuitive and user-friendly. ...Many features (email/sync/wifi connect, etc) were nearly automatic with little setup or manipulation. It's fast. When connected to my home wifi network, INET connection takes only a few seconds at most. Even when connected to Verizon's open network, the speed is adequate to stream HD video with no buffer. It's Lazy. Although I'm sure its not a new feature, I love the talk to text. For all text related tasks (text/
    email/
    facebook/
twitter, web search/etc), you just speak - the phone renders to text - and hit "send". That's it, and it hasn't yet miscued and skewed spelling.Cons:The battery is weak, and the "extended life" battery is and extra $50. In approximately 24 hours of "on" time, I've had to plug it in 3 times. The embedded Apps are unstable, which is cumbersome as they can't be uninstalled. In my case, the Bitbop, Blockbuster, VZW Navigator, Kindle, and Rhapsody apps - all embedded, data plan "standard" apps - either fail out, error as unrecognized or unsupported, or have locked the phone and require force quit. Verizon tech support's solution was to have the phone flashed and start over or just get a different phone altogether. On the other hand, all marketplace download apps are working fine.

Pros: most of it works very fast

Cons: it freezes up alot and some apps not work

this phone works very fast on the 3g network but when it changes over to a 4g network some of the apps will not work like yahoo messenger if it works you are lucky. down load speed on 3 g is much faster than cable internet at times. drops calls from ...tower to tower if not same g network. cost alot, i should know i got mine a week after they came out.the battery very short time, the fix to get longer battery life close any apps you not need, can use battery to see a tv show or on line for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, set screen to turn off at 15 secs if you are playing music and the battery last a long time or a phone call i have talked on it 2 hours just on the battery, for get about using it with a tv it is too new and not even best buy has tv's that work with the phone yet, now if you an internet then you can use a tv that internet ready but you have to go through the wifi to make it work, it is called dlna works like wifi or blue tooth on better but finding those idems is the hard part, the phone can write in other words not just english for writing around around the world, it can speak into the phone insted of writing,,, no text texting and driving now you just speak and the phone puts the words you say as a text. you have fun with that one not many words are right... Good phone, Not great, but good

By Shade  May 19, 2011 | 3 out of 3 found this HTC ThunderBolt Charcoal Gray Smartphone - Verizon Wireless review helpful

Pros: Great display and touch reaction, Video and Camera are very good.

Cons: Battery Life, Charging plug in bad spot, aftermarket stuff is expensive and hard to find.

Very good phone, great build quality, activation was a bit of a pain, battery life is meh... And the best time to charge a phone is when your watching a movie. Guess where the charging port is...on the bottom as the unit sits on it's kick stand so yo...u can not charge it while watching a movie. Some one needs a kick in the rear for that one. Camera takes good photos and very good video. Runs most apps flawlessly but your high quality video may cause it to stutter. Won't play .MOV files at all. Read more Less

    Awesome phone

By Michael  May 20, 2011 | 3 out of 3 found this HTC ThunderBolt Charcoal Gray Smartphone - Verizon Wireless review helpful

Pros: Great new features over the original Droid

Cons: Battery life and apps that came with the phone

I bought this phone to replace the Droid and it is a great phone. There are a great deal of new features that really make this phone worth the purchase. One great feature is how the phone's ring tone silents when you pick up the phone. The only down ...falls are the battery life, which is horrible, and the large number of apps that came with the phone. The apps cannot be erased and take up space. I called Verizon and was informed that they do not make the phone so it is out of their control. Read more Less

    Unbelievable Phone

By David  May 19, 2011 | 3 out of 3 found this HTC ThunderBolt Charcoal Gray Smartphone - Verizon Wireless review helpful

    Pros: Everything, especially speed!

Cons: Battery life, stay close to power.

This phone will do everything you want and more. Connect your other devices using the mobile hotspot and be even more amazed. I use my computer in the field often, now I am not concerned if I will be able to connect to my office VPN at a client. With... mobile hotspot, I can connect at high speed everytime. The camera and screen are also a great feature. Read more Less

    Expensive - But Great Phone

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 18, 2011 | 3 out of 4 found this HTC ThunderBolt Charcoal Gray Smartphone - Verizon Wireless review helpful

Pros: Large Display, Intuitive, Fast, Sturdy

    Cons: No HDMI Port

I've been using the Thunderbolt since the day it was released and I've not looked back. While there has been an occasional hiccup with the 4G, it's been spot on 99% of the time. Video streaming/quality is excellent. The screen is nice and large, whi...ch might turn some people off because of the overall size of the phone, but if you see it in person and decide it will work for you, then it becomes a non-issue really. I really like how it sync'd with my google calendar/facebook. I get all my daughter's calendar updates from her school as well as things like my friends' birthdays from Facebook. Yes, the battery life is not great, but it never is on smart phones, so I don't consider that to be a con. The only knock I have on the phone, and it's not really on the phone, is that the new Netflix app isn't combatible with it, but that's Netflix's problem. Read more Less

Steep Transition Curve but will be worth it

By JOE  May 19, 2011 | 2 out of 3 found this HTC ThunderBolt Charcoal Gray Smartphone - Verizon Wireless review helpful

Pros: speed, screen, talk+tether, phone talk quality

Cons: contacts search, callerID no company, battery, hardwire tethering locks up TB & PC, music won't play in alpha order

this phone will be great, after three weeks that is clear. But the transition from Blackberry has been BRUTAL. Contacts management very very weak (search, multiple contact display, etc) but was fixes with $399 app. callerID cannot be made to display ...company but fixed with $.99 app, still wroking on hardwire tethering lockups, music in alpha order, and battery life must be constantly managed. using this phone for business expect 3 hours life so stay close to plug. wired headset jack is too deep so cord jack must be around 1/16th of inch out of hole to get right ear/ mic to work. Help in multiple Verizon stores with these hardcore business apps is simply zero....but I'm past the bar where I'm keeping it...its is RIPPING fast in 4G zones which are most of my airports are. This Phone is Very Smart

By Harry  Oct 25, 2011 | 1 out of 1 found this HTC ThunderBolt Charcoal Gray Smartphone - Verizon Wireless review helpful

Pros: 4G Lte Speed is great for viewing the internet

Cons: Typing and use of the virtual keyboard

Owned this Thunderbolt for 6 months now. Operates with an extended battery,Typing and use of the virtual keyboard is sloppy, and cumbersome. Certainly not a texting phone, way too many typing errors. Phone is also jittery, far too easy to touch icons... by accident. The home keys should be mechanical keys like some of the other Droids not the software keys Thunderbolt uses. HOWEVER......Music downloads are very fast. Screen viewing size is good for a phone. Accessing the internet is fast, very fast. Reading any article is fantastic, this phone has a feature that I have not seen on any other phone. Not only does it enlarge the text like any other smart phone but unlike the others it lines up the text in one slim column and makes reading any wordy document very easy with its' humungous large text. This feature is great for seniors. Streams the internet very well. Downloads are very fast. In short a very good phone with a very few drawbacks. Read more Less

    Will NOT disappoint!!

    By A  May 29, 2011

Pros: Screen size, kickstand, blazing DL speeds, beautiful picture quality

Cons: battery life, sound quality is iffy on video recordings

Hands down the best phone I've ever owned. It's beautiful to look at, very easy to use, and the display is most certainly a conversation starter. When I whip out my purple Thunderbolt, people say- what phone is that? I was one that always thought I h...ad to have a real keyboard. Between the size of the screen and the voice command features, I dont miss an actual keyboard at all. No matter where the market goes, at least for the next couple of years I have the confidence of knowing that my new phone is relevant. If you are sick of Apple and their closed marketplace and the way they treat their clients; and you are looking for a realiabe smartphone that allows for business and social networking all while having a great time, then this is the one. You will not be disappointed. Even though the battery life leaves alot to be desired like every other smartphone on the market, if you get the car charger then you have nothing to worry about. The included charger unplugs from the wall base to provide the usb cable. It's highly portable so I just keep it with me. Video chat, 4g capabilities, 8mg front facing camera, and access to the ever growing Android marketplace- what more can you ask for? Read more Less
