Pros: Double Ovens

Cons: Shoddy Construction-Lack of Quality Control

After a great deal of research, I decided to buy this range because people said wonderful things about the double ovens. I have had this stove for less than a day and have called the KitchenAid customer service line twice. Quite a few reviews said th...e stainless is almost impossible to clean, so I bought a black range. First, the handles on both ovens are this cheesy, cheap plastic and they came with a million little scratches in them like old plastic that's been left in the sun for a year. Second, both the upper and lower oven doors came with crud on the inside of the glass where you can't clean it. Third, the lowest power burner, the back right, goes off when you turn it to low. Fourth, the burners are unresponsive for much of what should be medium heat. Fifth, the pin on the right in the upper oven that holds the cover down over the heating element was not screwed down and when the oven heated up, the cover popped up like a Jack-In-The-Box and banged into the rack. Sixth, the installation instructions that you can download for placement of the gas line (which are identical to the hard copy you get with the delivery of the range) are not specific enough about the placement of the gas line. The two plumbers who installed the gas line went over the instructions carefully and repeatedly so they'd get the placement right and when the oven was delivered today, the gas line is too high and too far to the left for it to fit into the tiny recess behind the range so the range sticks out from the wall two inches. It's going to cost another $75-$125 to have the gas line moved over. When I called KitchenAid and complained the first time, they said they'd send a repair person out tomorrow to check on my complaints. As the day went on and I found more flaws, I got madder and called KitchenAid again to tell them I didn't want a lemon--I wanted a new stove. They said they don't replace appliances unless things can't be repaired. I repeated I didn't want things repaired on a stove I'd never even cooked in, that I wanted a new stove. They told me to contact the store where I bought it to see if perhaps they could arrange some sort of exchange. I told them the store wasn't responsible for problems in design and manufacturing, and KitchenAid again told me I had to contact the store where I bought the range. I contacted the store and am going to call them tomorrow after the repair person comes to repair a stove I haven't as yet used for cooking. So much for KitchenAid and research. Read more Less
