Pros: Lightweight, Quick Charge, Powerful
Cons: Cheaper construction, shorter battery life
I got this drill as a present, but I've been very happy with it. This model is sort of a "Value line" type, a lesser version of the BDF451.
I haven't experienced the problems mentioned by the others. The drill charges very fast and has been able to handle everything I've used it for, from drilling steel to driving screws and nuts to polishing and stripping paint and finishes. The battery life (with the 2 1.5a cells) is decent; you can also use the more durable-and heavy-3a/h ones used for the "pro" model.
If you can get a good deal on the price, I highly recommend this drill.
Pros: LIGTHWEIGTH, 15MIN FULL CHARGE, HUGE POWER: 450 POUNDS/INCH
Cons: YOU MAY BUY 3.0 A/H BATTERY, 1.5A/H DEAD QUICKLY.
I HAVE THIS EXTRAORDINARY MACHINE 6 MONTHS AGO, AND ITS AMAZING, YOU CAN WORK ALL DAY WITH A ONE 3.0A/H FULL CHARGE!!!!
THIS LITTLE GUY IS "REALLY" THE BULL OF THE DRILLS!!!!!!!!!
BUY IT, AND ENJOY IT!!!!!!!
Pros: Light battery
Cons: crappy chuck
I finally used mine that I bought over a month ago at HomeDepot. I put in a bit, the thing is wobbling. Put in another bit, ( half incher), same deal. All my bits were wobbling around in the chuck.
Just brought a new one home after exchanging it at HomeDepot, same deal all over again. I am going to return it for good.
Pros: light weight, lithium technology
Cons: lousy quality, expensive
It's light and short, which is what professional installers and remodellers have always wanted. (not more stinkin' power. Figure it out tool companies!) Unfortunately Makita made this drill on the cheap. My charger fan screeches because it's grinding against something. The chuck is way out off center and the drill wobbles all over with larger bits. The battery wiggles too.
I bought this drill in a combo kit with an impact driver. It's possible that the ones sold individually are different.
What would I get instead? Bosch's lithium tools look good. They are small and light and made in Germany. Unfortunately they are even more expensive, and they don't yet make a drill without a stupid quick-change chuck.
Pros: light weight and works well
Cons: battery and charger failed
I purchased this drill from Home Depot and used it probably 3 or 4 times for light work around the house . The battery both went bad after one charge . Took it to local repair shop and the batteries and charger were replaced . Now 7 months later and after building a stand for my aquarium the one of the batteries has gone bad again after 4 charges. I think I spent $200 for a piece of junk. I originally chose Makita as they are usually a well put together product. But this 18v cordlless really SUCKS ! I would look to another brand for my cordless 18v needs. Thanks Makita for a piece of Trash!
Pros: light weight
Cons: i dont find
i work with it for more then 2 years and it is like new i screw with it more then a half screws heer in israel and its like new
Pros: Light Weight; Powerful
Cons: Short battery life:
Lightweight and comfortable to use with plenty of power, but the battery has to be recharged frequently. Actually, I found this L-Ion battery had to be recharged much more frequently than a Ni-Cad of equivilant power.
